I peered into the TA office nervously. I was looking for TA Joshua Thomas to catch up on the first history of magic lesson that I missed because I had just arrived at Hogwarts yesterday. I was glad that at least one teacher cared enough to make it a little easier for the newe students, but that didn't make me any less nervous. "Um. . . Is Mr. Joshua Thomas here?" I asked, standing in the doorway with my hands locked behind my back. I didn't know if this is what he meant, but it was worth a try. Hopefully he would be nice- after Mr. Slughorn who was just a little frightening, I was kind of cautious around teachers and teacher assistants.
Glancing up from my upcoming lesson plans Joshua noticed one of the new students. She had missed the first lesson, most likely here to get some help. Standing up he started toward the nervous looking girl. "Ah Cathrine, glad to see you." he announced when he got near her. "Please follow me to my desk." he said with a hand motion toward one of the desks in the mass office.
When they got to the desk he resumed his position in his seat and pointed to a seat in front of his desk. "Help your self to water over there," he pointed across the room. "Now, how can I help you today?" he asked.

I sat on the edge of the appointed chair, much less nervous than before, but only just so. My full name always made me feel as if I were in trouble, but that was probably because I was so used to everyone calling me Kat. I suppose I'd have to get used to it, after all, everyone was pretty formal around here. So I might as well play along. I resisted the urge to wring my hands like a nervous wreck I knew I wasn't. I silently ordered myself to behave, I was fine and I better suck it up. I was just catching up on missed class time, nothing wrong with that.
"As you um... probably already know, I'm here to catch up on the first lesson I missed because my arrival to Hogwarts was a bit late." I looked at him now calmer. There, I'd said it. Now all there was to do was wait for his reply.
Smiling at the nervous girl Joshua started, "Ah, thats what I thought you were coming to me for. A few other students also came to school late. But they already came to me." He pulled out a piece of parchment and a quill "Take notes on this, and put it in your folder when you get back to your dorm. The first thing you need to know about is that we are studying Ancient Egypt this year." he started.
At the start of this time period there were only witches, girls who could do magic, and there were no wizards. Could you give me a reason why that might be? Just take a guess." He said with a smile.
(OOC: Sorry for short posts lately, been busy trying to hurry)

A corner of my lip twitched upward in reply to his smile as I accepted the parchment and quill. I quickly scribbled down Ancient Egypt in excellent flowing letters. His next question brought my quill to my lip as I thought of a reply. Why would there only be witches and not wizards? I tapped the back of the quill against my bottom lip, another habit of mine when I'm thinking, that and tapping the utensil I was using on whatever surface possible, but I refrained from the latter as I racked my brain.
"Would it be because-" I paused, trying to form the words on my tongue, I always found it difficult to say what I was thinking, I never could word it quite the way I did in my mind. I actually was sort of at a loss. Why would there only be girls not guys? Oh well, I'd try anyways. "-um. . . maybe because of. . . The difference in brain capacity or something?" My mind had gone completely blank as soon as I had begun speaking, my previous idea gone. Oh well, I wasn't supposed to know everything, I was here to learn.
(OOC: No problem I don't mind.)
