Fourth and Fifth Years: Class Three

Entering the classroom quietly, Azar left the door open behind him. He seated himself behind the teacher's desk, and set out some parchments he had neatly on the desk. The class still had ten minutes until it was due to start, and so he idly read through them, each one notes on a topic he could teach. He hadn't decided which yet though, and would use the time to decide.

So far the class had coped adequately with the topics, although he hadn't really introduced anything difficult. The practical lesson had been poor, and so even though his pre-term plan had this down for another he was considering pressing on with theory to avoid more embarassing injuries to pupils. Sighing, he tried to find a decent topic to cover, hoping to sort one out before class began.

Ashanti was making her way, to her classes, for the day.She hoped she would, be on time.Unlike last time where, she was late to the class.Walking down the hallway, she started walking more quickly. Once she finally reached the classroom door, Ashanti saw it was left open.Was she late again?Ashanti sighed.But as she opened the door more to walk into, the class.She saw the Professor was there.But nobody else was? Looking around the room.Ashanti saw she was the, first student there.That was a shock to her! She was actually on time, for once at least.


She walked into the classroom.As Ashanti passed by the, Professor's desk.She turned to say, good morning to him."Morning".Then she kept moving.Now where should she sit at?Was the question.So many seats to choose from.Finally, Ashanti decided to sit in the middle, row for once.After she seated herself in the desk, she got out the items she needed, for class.Her wand,pens,parchment and notebook.Once Ashanti was all set u for class, she then opened her notebook.Ashanti started drawing a few sketches, to pass time by more quickly.While she waited for more students to show up, and for the class to start.

[Jade "Lizzy" Silvernacle]

Lizzy walked down towards DADA. She enjoyed all of her classes so she could definately say one of her favorite classes.

When she got there and entered she saw that she was the second to arrive. There was the professor and Ashanti. Smiling she waved to the professor before going and sitting by Ashanti. Before talking she pulled out parchment, ink, and quill ready for notes if need be. Finally she turned to Ashanti, "It's Ashanti right?" she asked the hufflepuff girl. She had been in many classes with Ashanti, but she hadn't ever really talked to her.

Elesy was walking to DADA. Elesy was happy to say she was going to be on time, for once in her life, or maybe not once, but several times. Elesy got to the classroom and entered, she was swift, and, she took a seat in the middle row, she sat near someone she was best friend s with, Jade.


"Hey... Jade!." Elesy said, she looked at the person next to Jade. "Hello, I am Elesy Longhorn, Slytherin, Forth year, call me El." Elesy was friendly. Elesy pulled out her ink, quill, and, parchment. Elesy waited in the silence.[/color][/font]

Selene entered the classroom with a yawn, She was still tired, and had been tired since she'd woken up. At breakfast, she'd spilled her oatmeal down her robes, because she hadn't been paying attention. Being too lazy to go back and change, she'd just tried to wash the stain out. It had kind of worked, but there was still a small stain on the front. She was too tired to care, though. She looked around and saw that she was the first fifth year to arrive. She took a seat by herself and laid her head on her desk and tried to sleep.

The Slytherin entered the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. With a quick look around, she noticed that there weren't many people in the classroom. She waved to Jade and El as she took a seat at the back and put her things down.

Kali didn't really know what the point is of her bringing in other things. Sure, she would need her quill and parchment for writing but technically, all she needed was her wand. Right?

Astrid walked in and immediately took a seat. She retrieved the various materials that she would need for the class from her messenger bag and set them down on the desk neatly. She then crossed her arms over her chest and waited for the lesson to begin.

The Mihael really should start getting used to his new schedule. Usually Levi got his schedule in the beginning of the term and somewhere in the middle he finally knew what his class would be, without looking at the paper. This time his schedule had changed during the term though, and for a boy like Levi, this was a great problem. He highly doubted that he would get used to it before he got a new one.

DADA would be his next class. Of course! He thought, as he folded the paper and put it back into his pockets. Checking his bag, he found out that he didn't have his books. He sighed as he realized that he would have to walk all the way back towards the tower in order to get it. Well if he wanted to make it for the beginning of the class there was no time to feel sorry for himself, he should start hurrying.

Never Ever was he going to forget his books. Such a de-tour wasn't exactly to be considered as fun. He was tired even before the starting of the class. Quickly he slipped into the classroom. The hurrying payed off, he actually was on time. "Hello Professor." He said politely as he passed the teacher's desk, before he walked further towards a free spot in the back.

He didn't feel that talkative today so he sat there all by his self. Maybe if somebody joined him he would feel like talking again. At least he wasn't going to put effort into starting a conversation.. making sure a conversation wouldn't fall into unpleasant silences was a whole other story though.

Getting out his books he stared out the window to his right. It was raining outside. Fall was coming. Somehow Levi didn't find himself celebrating that fact.

"Hmm..." with a resigned shrug to no-one in particular, Azar stood from his seat. He'd waited quite a while now and part of the lesson was already gone, but still there were only seven students. The situation was similar to his other class, so it seemed to be a school trend, and a concerning one at that.

"Well, thanks to you who have come," said Azar with a smile at the dedicated few. "Today, we're covering quite a key spell which could serve you well in future, so if you know anyone who has missed today's class, fill them in as best you could when you next see them. Anyhow, it's a spell, the shield charm, who can tell me the incantation?". Looking around after his simple question, Azar awaited an answer, so they could work through this topic and onto the next.

[Holden J. Caulfield]

Holden walked into the room as Professor Salinas began talking about the lesson. He walked over to where Levi was and sat down. Since Jackson nor Avery showed up in class the quatro amigos went down to the duo. ;_; At least Levi was here to save the day. SUPER LEVI GO!

The Hufflepuff pulled out his parchment and quill and began writing down workds. 'Shield Charm'. "Expelliarmus?," said Holden. He didn't know if that was the write answer or what.[/size]

"Nope," said Azar, to a late comer who arrived with a suggestion. A terrible suggestion if Azar was honest, but an answer was better than silence, so he went gently, "Expelliarmus is the disarming spell, and can't be used on spells flying towards you. This can, and blocks them when performed correctly. Anyone else have any ideas?". Looking around again, he wondered if the question was actually harder than he'd anticipated.

Lizzy looked up as the class started. There was a question asked and the first to try and answer was wrong, but she knew the answer. Raising her hand she waited patiently to be called on. "The incantation is Protego, meaning protect in latin." she said putting her hand down then adding, "Despite its relative simplicity, a large number of adult witches and wizards are not proficient at this spell." Satisfied with her answer she leaned back in her chair waiting to see what the Professor would say.

[Avery Moretti]

Avery walked into the room, not quickly like she might because of the fact she was a few minutes late, but rather sluggishly. She sulked on her way, her left hand grasping the strap of her messenger bag as she glanced up from behind her black hair quickly, spotting Levi and Holden. This cheered her up slightly, but not as much as if she had seen Jackson inside. He'd disappeared, and she hadn't seen him for awhile. Now she was depressed. Of course, the stupid year advances made Jackson not in any of her classes, making her sad.

Sliding into a seat on the other side of Levi, she gave a minuscule smile to the pair of them and and murmured a quiet, "Hullo." Then she set out her notepad and stuff, dropping her messenger bag on the floor and hovering her pen over the paper, waiting for the Professor to say something that she could write down.

"Correct," said Azar happy someone got to the answer eventually, "The basic shield charm is known as Protego, and it will, when performed correctly deflect simple aggressive spells and hexes. Of course a spell like this can't block everything, can anyone give me an example of something Protego can, and something it can't block?". Looking around again Azar hoped for a quick answer, the question lending itself towards educated guesses, even if the student didn't know the answer.

Elesy had kind of difted, she wasn't sure for how long, but, not very she hoped. Elesy then caught what the Professor had said. Elesy raised her hand, she wasn't sure of what Protego can't block, but, she knew something that it can or couple things. "Protego can block Stupefy, and, other simple spells." Elesy said, using her brain, and, paying full attention.


Elesy let a sigh out, she was happy with the answer she gave, she hoped she was right, but, then again nobody can always be right, so either way, she will be happy with her answer and the way she answered the question.[/font]

Scribbling out some notes about Protego, what the Professor was talking about, she gazed up at him. She knew the answer to his question, but a Slytherin girl answered part of it before she had the chance. Then she paused, wondering whether she should say something. Avery wasn't exactly in the mood for talking much, but she figured she might as well try to get Mihael some house points whenever she could. Though, Hufflepuff was so far ahead of them that she wasn't sure if she should even bother.

Yet, giving up wasn't something Missus Moretti did often. So she rose her hand, and answered when called upon, "As Elesy said, Protego can block simple spells and hexes. But, it can't block some things, such as the forbidden curses, like Avada Kedavra and stuff." Content with her answer, she leaned back in her chair, wondering if the Professor would accept her response.

"Yep, you're both right there," said Azar as two girls put together a complete answer. The Forbidden curse analogy given though, wasn't quite what he had really been looking for, so he tried to explain better what he had meant by moving off course slightly. "There is of course a closely related, yet markedly stronger relation to the Protego shield spell. It's incantation is simply an extra word spoken after Protego, as you cast the shield, does anyone know what I'm referring to?". Throwing the initiative back to the students, Azar took a moment to think before an answer came, as he tried to decide whether to go in detail on the more complex spell, or just to leave it in passing.

[Nyna Adustum]

Nyna cursed herself in the traditional, non-magic sense as she made her way into the DADA classroom. Was there a single class this year that she wasn't going to be late to? Maybe, maybe not. The Ravenclaw took a seat behind Selene, a fellow Ravenclw, and tried to pay attention to what the Professor was teaching.

There was something about sheilding charms and now he was asking what word you could add at the end of the traditional Protego to make it stronger. The fourh year wasn't sure, so she did not answer.

The Slytherin sat back in silence as the lesson began. There was talking and discussions going on and although the Slytherin was interested in it, she didn't speak at all. But as an awkward silence fell in the room as the Professor asked yet another question, the Slytherin slightly raised her hands to answer. She didn't know what exactly she would say and just waited for words to form in her mouth and just speak. "Which spell are you talking about Professor?" she said. "Protego totalum, a spell that 'defend the whole' or the Protego horribilis, which is just a variation of Protego?" she asked. although in truth, Kali had no idea whether she was correct or not. It just so happen that she came across it when she was reading, believe it or not, spell books.

"No..." said Azar, pleased at some of the guesses, but disappointed they hadn't got he answer he wanted, "I was looking for Protego Maxima, which can block some stronger spells than plain Protego. It still cannot block the Killing Curse, say. But it's useful nonetheless. Now, copy these notes down,". Turning to the board, he wrote up his usual paragraph, trying to keep it on Protego and avoiding the Maxima aside which would be for a later lesson.

Protego
Protego is the shield spell which when performed correctly, can block spells directed at the caster. It is useful, yet limited as it cannot block very strong spells, or Unforgivables.

"If you have no more questions, you may leave," said Azar fully aware there was still some time left in the period. If he was honest to himself though, he had nothing useful to teach them, and so there was no point keeping them there for precision's sake. "Please be punctual for next lesson, so we can wrap up this term as I have planned.". With a smile, he opened the door and then sat behind his desk, absently thinking as he waited for the room to empty out.
