Forum Rules
This document will describe the different rules that govern the forum that is Trio’s Hogwarts. Copying of this rule list doesn’t really make sense since I have a few strict guidelines included, but copying of this document is not allowed as it is copyright to Trio’s Hogwarts and the admin, Britt.
Section 1: Specific Rules
I. Respect the Backstory: There is a Backstory that details the events that lead up to the site being where it is. It governs how a lot of interaction happens around the site as history really is important to understand things.
The following are prohibited in respect of the Backstory.
-A new character may not have the last name Potter
-Claiming to be the children of the Trio
These require special permission:
-Any character wishing to use the last name Granger, Weasley or Malfoy must be approved by applying with the Admin to make sure it can fit into the Backstory.
-If you want to be related to a book character that is mentioned in the Backstory, you must check with the person whom is listed already there.
II. Maintain the Role-play atmosphere: A role-play is no fun if everyone just knows everyone and can do anything. Here at Trio’s Hogwarts, we try to keep things as realistic as possible. Therefore, we ask you keep the following in mind.
-When entering a thread, pay attention to what is happening inside it. You cannot automatically know what is going on. If you interrupt a conversation and try to pick up where it is, you must have an explanation for it. You can’t just come in and start talking.
-Remember that this is a role-play site. That’s the purpose. There are several areas made for OOC so OOC stuff should be kept there. It is okay to have an {OOC} notation here and there, but it is not alright to have just a post with only {OOC} in it. Please try to keep a role-play post as long as any OOC notes you may have in the thread. Also, do not hold an entire conversation in the course of a role-play thread. If this happens, it’ll be considered spam and locked.
III. Respect your fellow members: Please refrain from the following:
-Advertising via PMs (owls). It is very annoying and it’s not allowed. If you want to advertise, you have a signature for that.
-One word posts and double posting. Unless you have met the character limit of a post, there’s no reason to double post. Now, you may double post if there has been over 24 hours between your posts and you really want a thread to be role-played out and it’s the only way to get attention to it. One word posts in threads will be locked as it is spam.
-Shipping is not allowed in signatures, personal text or in avatars. Shipping is defined as support for a romantic couple. In this case, the Harry Potter characters. (Other shipping is allowed) People have varied opinions and to avoid fights breaking out, we just don’t do it. Now, there are a couple of exceptions. The exceptions to the shipping rule are those characters that play the ones that would be involved. For example, Hermione Potter can have what would be considered “shippy” images because according to the role-play she is married to Harry Potter.
-Complete signatures must fit within a 600x350 limit. Not everyone has huge screen resolutions and they do have loading times for people. So, with pictures and text, your signature may not exceed 350 pixels in height or 600 pixels in width. Signatures that exceed this will be reduced via one of the staff. If the staff continually has to reduce your signature, you will start to receive warnings.
-Due to the extremely different universes that Anime takes place in, anime characters will no longer be allowed at Trio's Hogwarts. If you want to be an anime character (like Inyuasha or Naruto), please find a role-play in that category as it's not appropriate here. We've tried to allow it, but it's been abused far too much and is no longer allowed.
IV. Everyone must have a bio: All characters (with the exception of house elves and scrap characters) must have a biography. All bios go in the Biography Bastion. Any that have problems will go to the Waiting List.
The Biography Bastion has a bio form built in so you just need to fill it in. Please list more than one sentence for the paragraph sections. This is your time to let us know about your character.
- Due to abuses in the past, there are only a few species that your character may be. The following are the only ones permitted: humans, vampires, werewolves, veela. That means no giants, demons, angels, half animals, centaurs, goblins, etc…
-If you wish to have special powers (meaning more than just being a wizard or witch), you must PM the Admin for permission.
A. Elementalism, as in controlling an element without a wand is forbidden.
B. Full wandless magic is forbidden.
-Bios may be updated as time passes to include changes in a persons appearance, aging, discoveries of family-since the War did separate people-, etc.
V. Follow the TOS: Proboards has a Terms of Service that everyone must abide by. Breaking it could result in the site getting deleted, so I am very adamant about keeping Trio’s inside the TOS. I’d like to stress a few of these.
The following are not allowed:
-Sexual content (this includes rape and student pregnancy)
-Excessive cussing (the F-word is not allowed under any circumstances)
-Suicide or Suicide attempts
Section 2: Consequences for rule-breaking
Steps to Punishment
If you break the forum rules, this is the order of punishment. It differs slightly from the In Character (IC) steps as it affects the account, not necessarily the student or character. This applies to all characters, not just students.
The first step is a written warning via owl. If there are multiple violators, the warning could come as a chastisement in the thread where the violations occur. Step two is a physical warning that will have an expiration date. Some of the more severe warnings may or may not have an expiration date. The third step is the account being disabled for a maximum of 7 days. The fourth step is the account being deleted. Now, that means the person can create a new account, but not with that character anymore. The fifth and final step is a ban.
These steps can be circumvented depending on the severity of the offense. For example, a person can earn an automatic ban if caught stealing content, images, or the like from this site. Spammers can also earn automatic bans.
Section III: Suggestions
These are not against the rules, but are strongly suggested against.
-One liner posts. There’s really not much you can do with a one liner posts. A thread made entirely of these is viewed as spam by some so some mods will lock threads such as these. (On the other hand, one word posts aren’t allowed.)
-“Fall in love” in the first post that you meet someone. People don’t fall in love in one day.
