It had been 5 months, 5 months of nothing, 5 months of hurt, of anger, of “Where the hell is she”, of doubt, resentment, frustration, guilt… 5 months of emptiness. He tried to be strong, for his wife, his kids, for Erik…for everyone… he tried. At work was no different, he couldn’t concentrate. Maybe there was too much emotion behind it, emotions always got in the way, emotions held you back, emotions were not something allowed… not at work… not after Josh…
Straw Buckett bit hard on the pen that hung half out of his mouth. He sat staring down at his wooden messy desk, head in hands, trying not to feel so emotional. He was struggling. If it wasn’t for Kat’s stubbornness he was sure his marriage would be over.. it was struggling as it was . He honestly couldn’t love her enough sometimes, if only he could bring himself to tell her. Tell her like he used to, everyday, how much he loved her, appreciated her, wanted her… he used to. These days Straw struggled to look at her. The very idea of loosing her frightened him, the triplets, Kelly, Queety, Erik.. everyone.
Who was next? Was she next? Would he loose her? What if they got them, all of them and we was left to live the rest of his life without them? Straw scrunched his eyes tightly and let out a deep moan of frustration. This wasn’t the time to be thinking of this, he had to concentrate. It was all right in front of him but why was it so difficult to see. Why couldn’t he figure this out?!
Now, now was the most important time, before it was too late. Cos what’s around the corner?
‘Tell her every day,’ he repeated in his head. Tell her everyday .. Straw’d made a promise to never let anything stand between him and Kat ever again and here he was standing in the way himself. Straw takes his hand off his eyes and glances at the clock.
9:20pm
He said he’d be home soon. Straw rises and leaves the office. He throws hhis red cloak tightly around himself, it’s raining outside. Straw walks down the road and turns into the park, wanting to enjoy the trees before he apparatus home. It dark, the rain is light, he moon is barely visible through the dark clouds. The wind picks up and Straw flicks his collar round up round his next.
And..
And then he hears something…
A branch snaps…
