The snow may have been melting but Straw's toes were far from warm. Two degree and counting, he rubbed his gloved hands together confirming he still had feeling in his fingers. Checking his watch Straw counted thirty minutes, they hadn't been here long but in attempts to be a good father, Straw didn't want his children out in the cold too long. But a promise was a promise and they had all eaten their breakfast and changed their clothes without a fuss so a morning at the park was their reward..
Looking up from his watch he did a quick child count. 'One,' he spied Scarlett’s yellow beanie attempting to climb the steps to the slide, 'Two,' A quick flicker to the right revealed Josh's green and blue stripped beanie mid slide, 'Aaaannnd Three?' but the red beanie was nowhere to be seen. 'Where. Did. He. Go?' With narrowed eyes the Auror scanned the playground, not panicking for he knew Spaiden couldn't be too far away. "RAW!" came a shrilled yell as a tiny puffed figure jumped him from behind and landed on Straw's back with a tiny 'oooff'. Reaching up behind him, Straw raw’ed back playfully, "WHO'S ON MY BACK?" he huffed like a giant, standing up and stomping around pretending he couldn't reach the boy. Shrilled laughter escaped the three and a half year old as he clung for life onto his fathers shoulders. Bending over, Straw carefully flipped Spaiden over his shoulder and onto the ground where he proceeded to tickle him senseless. The boy screamed in glee as his arms and legs floundered around uncontrollably. Josh must have heard the commotion and soon he too was upon Straw wrestling to help free his brother. "Oh another fly on my back," Straw boomed and turned from Spaiden to attack Josh, “Must kill fly!!” The next ten minutes was spent with Straw chasing the two around the park, wrestling and tickling. Soon out of puff and on request to make it snow from Scarlett, Straw fell against a tree out of breath, feeling his age he whipped out his wand and began to create snow for his daughter as the boys retired to their tricycles looking red faced.
Nothing warmed Straw's heart faster than his children. When he was around them, the world simply disappeared. All his anguish, angst and hate fluttered away, for their eyes purely melted his soul. Their hugs tore away his sorrow and something, only every now and then, as they’d fall asleep and he’d hear them whisper how they loved him which would hinder the grown man speechless. Always taking an extra minute to pat their hair, Straw would gaze at his beauties feelings completely peaceful.
Straw was in an okay place for now. He no longer sort the attention from desperate loveless ladies, there was no satisfaction anymore and frankly he had more important things like his children to think about. Straw didn't fear being alone, granted it saddened him but now what worried him most was being a bad father. He was sure everyone viewed him as such and with the amount of offers he received to babysit just made him feel worse and he often wonder what he was doing wrong, like they didn't believe he could cope alone or disapprove of his methods. Straw had created a new outlook on life, he no longer accepted babysitters unless he was working late and he’d stop dating and just let it happen naturally.
