If there was one thing she hated doing, it was going home to see her mother. Kelly had received an owl from Adrienne Evans requesting her presence as a matter of urgency, and so, like the dutiful daughter she had tried so hard not to be, Kelly had gone running, expecting calamity and chaos. In actual fact, her mother had just needed to inform her that she'd been requested once again for a cousin's wedding, and thus said cousin, along with her mother and Adrienne Evans, had forced Kelly to trawl through three different dress shops in England (that's right, not just London, the whole of England!) to find the perfect dress. It was, to put it plainly, a nightmare. Adrienne had criticised every aspect of Kelly's appearance, from her red ballet flats to her dark jeans and black and white striped shirt. Not to mention her hair: "Couldn't you at least have washed it first?" It was all too much to handle. And so Kelly found herself, tired and cranky, getting away from her family home as fast as her legs could carry her. Apparating would have been faster, of course, but the late afternoon sunlight had managed to penetrate through the gloom of her mood just long enough to convince her that walking through Organic Park would make the pain of the afternoon fade away.
Kelly paused at her favourite spot in the park, on the stone bridge that separated the two main sections, and she sat down on the same bench she'd been seated on a few weeks ago, when she'd met up with Tristan and Emily. Just like that day, Kelly could see a small family playing on the banks of the little river that wound its way through the park, and she raised a hand to her eyes to shield them from the sun, so as to see better. The tallest figure looked very much like Straw, but Kelly did not want to intrude on a family's peace if it wasn't the Buckett brood after all. A cool breeze blew up suddenly, hinting that rain might be on its way, and Kelly had to brush her fingers through her hair to keep it away from her face. She curled her legs up underneath her on the bench and took a deep breath, trying to clear her mind of her mother's poisonous words and attitude that had plagued her for the afternoon. Adrienne Evans had never been the easiest person to love, but thinking back to the way her father rolled his eyes and smiled sympathetically at her as she'd been marched from the house made Kelly smile. Seeing her father almost always made up for the pain of having to see her mother.
