There are four basic parts of a broom. The first is the shaft, second is the tail, third is the conector, and fourth is the hex. In this chapter you will learn the four parts and what they do.
Section 1The Shaft.
The shaft is a basic part of a broom. First, the shaft is made of a fine wood such as Oak or Maple. The Piece is put through a hew called the straighting hex. This hex allows the caster to trace with his wand, the shape and curvature of the shaft. Then as the caster is finished he simply says Fini( fin-e) and the shaft of the broom will make the exact changes to replicate the motion of the wand. Most broom shafts are 4-5 feet long and have a S bend.

Another important part of a broom is the end of the shaft. As you can see on a broom the wood widdens into a special tip. This tip although not a major part of a broom, is important to keeping the rider on the broom in rainy weather. As a rider is gripping the shaft tight not to fall off he or she will slide down the shaft towards the end. To keep them from slideing off this piece is used as a blocker. It will not keep them from falling of but it does help by slowing the slide down so the rider cxan react and reposition themself.

Section 2 The Tail
Being the second most important part of the broom the tail is as unique as they come. Each tail is hand made to give the broom its perfect speed and control. Although most control comes from the broom one faulty turn by a rider can send him to the hospital for a long stay. Each tail stick is hand carved to fit together and leave little space between each of the sticks. After each of the 200 sticks are carved and cut to size they are bound together with a simple charm. Although we are not aloud to say the charm it is powerful enough to keep all the sticks bound together and unable to move. Finally there a specail hardening gloss put on the tail along with color to give the tail is shine and beauty.

Section 3 The Connector.
Very Small but very Important the connector is the part of the broom that litteraly pulls the broom together. First charmed onto the tail with the same charm used in putting the sticks together the shaft is then put into the other end of the connector where a fire casting charm is used to heat and shrink the connecter onto the shaft. Finally a coat of gloss and color is put onto the connector to cover the melting looking of the piece.

Section 4 The Hex
The Hex put onto the broom is known as the flying hex. This allows the broom some artifficial intellagence so it can float and move to a riders comands. Put onto the Tail of the broom the hex can be very dangerous. In one case the hex was put on the shaft where it them flew off and destroyed an entire lab while smashingt around. Since then all the hexes are casted in a special containment room.
