(OOC: Just in case anyone sees the fighting later on, Professor Slughorn knows about this thread. He will be joining us later to break it up.))
Is it possible to break your own heart? Briony thought it was. Because that's what she was doing, breaking her own heart. Standing beside the lake, Briony shivered a little, though not because it was cold, but because of what she was about to do. And honestly, she couldn't give one good reason as to way she was doing it. Tears formed in her eyes as she looked out over the water, thinking about Eric. She had loved him for as long as she could remember. They had known each other since they were two and she could still remember when she fell in love with him. Of course, then it had just been a little crush. They were five and she had fallen out of the tree they were climbing and scraped her knee. Eric had jumped down to make sure she had been alright. Her mother was sick and in the hospitial again and Eric had told her that since her mom couldn't kiss it and make it better, he would. So he had kissed her knee and she had fallen again. This time in love.
So why was she standing here, getting ready to break it off with the best thing that had ever happened to her. The one thing she had finally gotten after all those years of wanting. Her mother was sick again, just like she had been when Briony was five, and in the hospitial. Her adoptive mother. The Hufflepuff had met her real mother, but to her, her adoptive mother would always be her mom. After seeing her mother so sick for so many years, Briony decided that she wanted to live a bit before she settled down. And she knew that if she stayed with Eric right now, as her life revolved around him, she would want to marry him right out of school and then she would never have the chance.
Thinking about it, she knew she had chosen the wrong way about it. The boy she had been seen with in Hogsmeade was just that. Some boy. He didn't mean anything to her and she hadn't meant to anything to him. She had chosen him for the soul purpose of being seen with him. It wasn't that she didn't still love Eric, she did. She loved him more than anything, but she needed a break. And now, because she had chosen the wrong way to go about it, she had probably lost him forever. The tears that had formed in her eyes, streamed down her face as she checked her watch. Eric should be here soon. Now she just needed to decide what she was going to do. Let him believe what he had heard, tell him the truth of what was going on, or simply beg for forgiveness and try to be with him again.
