Avery trudged down to the Rose Petal Lane in an effort to keep his mind off of his dead cousin Landon. He thought he knew what to expect when he got there; lots of teenagers tying their bodies together in a desperate effort to not separate themselves from each other, smothering their saliva over one another's faces. He thought it was rather unnecessary; then again, he had never had that special someone to share that kind of emotion with before.
With a book under his right arm, he finally made it to the Rose Petal Lane and was shocked to find it completely deserted. Avery didn't care though, he liked the peace and quiet of the wind. He sat down on a bench under the warm August sun and began to read.

Jodi walked toward the Rose Petal Lane, from work to distract herself from school. She's been feeling so much stress lately from school, she had just wanted to escape. Book after book of information worked it's way into her head. It felt like she was made up of small letters and phrases, and every time she closed her eyes, she could see the ink imprint in her lids.
Work had ben alright. She had had the afternoon off, and so decided that she could probably lend a hand. Maybe taking up a part time job wasn't the best for Jodi. She was Head Girl, in the quidditch team, in her 7th year and now she had a part time job for the weekend. If she did find the courage to ask her crush out, she probably wouldn't even have time for him.
Walking toward Hogwarts, she noticed Avery sitting down on a bench reading. Jodi walked toward her, and sat down beside him. Seeing another book made her stomach turn, but she looked away from the book and toward Avery.
"Hey Avary," she said, smiling toward Avery showing her freshly clean white teeth.

'I don't even want to think about Transfiguring any of these things,' Avery thought in his head, browsing through his Transfiguraion book. He couldn't imagine trying to turn a horse into a staple, or a popsicle stick into a watch. All he had done so far was turn a leaf into snow. Sure, it had been quite neat, but he had done it. It took him a couple of tries though, but he didn't care; as a Hufflepuff, wasn't he supposed to be patient and just work hard and hope for the best?
He heard someone walking down from Hogwarts. Avery didn't know who it was, as they were very far away, and the sun was glaring in his eyes as he did so. He turned back to his book and continued reading until he heard the footsteps getting closer. Finally, he lifted his head up and was surprised to see the Hufflepuff Head Girl looking at him. He didn't know how she knew his name, but he was sure, as Head Girl, that she knew at least most of the students who were in Hufflepuff.
"Hey!" he replied to her sincerely, smiling as well. He shut his book; he was getting rather tired of reading about things he wouldn't experience the full sensation of for at least a few years now. Then he noticed the expression on the Head Girl's face. "What's up?" he asked; he felt embarrassed that she knew his name but that he didn't know her's.
