”Here in your arms” by Hellogoodbye

It was with some mixed emotions and feelings that Nort Flowers made his way onto the Quidditch pitch with Gryphon. Not being sure why you’re doing this and of course why your not voicing such worries to your best friend was rather confusing, thus that was Nort Flowers. Constantly over thinking too much and looking into thing too deeply instead of being his carefree self, or was that just the fact that Gryphon would now know another weakness of his…flying

He didn’t speak much on the way down, his nerves getting the better of him. Occasionally Nort would look over at his friend to smile confidently although the impression he was giving resembled that of someone who’d just had a stick shoved up an uncomfortable place. Nort giggled awkwardly, his eyes attempting to be normal as his heart beat fast in his little chest. Flying….its only flying…can’t be that baaa…

Nort thoughts interrupted as they entered the Quidditch pitch and he was violently reminded of why he had been avoiding this place. “So… I’ll just…” Nort spied a bench. A BENCH!!!!! “Look a bench!” his voice full of excitement as he skipped over to the wooden benches and took a seat, “Isn’t this exciting? I’ll sit here while you have the first go," Nort purposely having not taken a broom down with him like Gryphon. [/size]

Humming happily right by Nort's side, Gryphon full of excitement skipped along the path down towards the Quidditch Pitch. Glad that he had agree'd on coming with her to try out her new broom. Though Gryphon had never flown before and that did attack her confidence a little in this "attempt". But having Nort with her seemed to have it's normal effect on the small girl. And she couldn't possibly feel more safe and more happier than right now.

Oh- how she was excited too. To actually-literally FLY! This was probably why Gryphon hadn't noticed the mood change in her dear friend. The grimace lingering there behind his eyes not striking Gryphon as it may have if she had been looking into them front on. And perhaps on her tippie toes.

No, it had been the excitement over the bench that had finally drawn her attention fully to him. Her grin faltering at the corners when she suddenly saw the unease in his features. Maybe even worry in his tone?

Having followed Nort to the bench Gryphon blinked her bright blue eyes, standing in front of him deliberately now to look into his face. Confusion written across her features.

"Out of all things here, I wouldn't put my vote on the bench being the most exciting." She quirked an eyebrow, studying him further. Feeling a bit worried now. "Something up Wich?"

Hesitant to reveal the truth, Nort was determined to hide his fear and go along with the flying adventure…although somehow without jumping on a broom. “huh? “ he replied his mind ticking away with a better reply not so….woosy!

“I’mmmmmm fine!” he stated believing this answer would be suffice for the dear girl. “ok Sand show us what you’ve made of!” he pushed wanting her to get in the air already so he could ‘oo’ and ‘arhh’ then they could go home to a none flying zone. [/size]

Gryphon blinked her eyes, her head cocking to the side as she stared at her best friend. Her face a void of emotion, blue eyes running over his features closely as she didn't speak for a moment. Picking apart his every word with immaculate detail in the commentary she was receiving from them.

"Your scared of flying?" The worry had returned to her face and was through out her voice. Lips parting at this sudden realisation.

"WHAT?" Nort jumped to his feet off the comfy bench, "how did yo...I am not afraid!" he lied back wanting to hide his fear. He wasn't going to admit that he was scared, not to Gryphon, not to anyone!!!

There was just a self pride in Nort that didn't want anyone knowing how scared he was. Well ok he was scared and wasn't that ok? No he hated being scared and was frankly embarassed about it and if he didn't keep his cool the hiden attempt to hide his very obvious fear would soon get him into trouble with the girl he called Sand. [/size]

Her jaw remained as it had been before. Loose and allowing her mouth to hang open. The fine fibres of realisation setting in still watching his face oh so closely. Of all people she knew Norts the best, every reaction he gave she saw it as it was or as it wasn't. Right through him like cling wrap. It was always the eyes that were a dead give away for Nort, Gryphon found that they quiet literally were the eyes to the soul for the boy

"I don't believe it..." Gryphon stammered still surprised at this news. Wondering why she hadn't worked this out earlier. "Why didn't you say so before? I mean we didn't have to come here if you didn't like flying. That's fine you know." She said shrugging her shoulders.

"I'm not scared! Can't believe that you..." Nort took one look at Gryphon and new by a moment that she knew his fears. Amazed that she thought it was ok, Nort was about to given, unable to fight anymore till a little voice in his head perked up loudly.

No Nort wait! Don't give in to her trickery, she'll only tease you later!!! listening to his little voice in which he shouldn't have paid so much attention to. Nort paused in mid speech, faltering as he realised how much he was about to embarrass himself by admitting his flying fear. No not today not ever, he couldn't....could he?

"I don't know what you're talking about," and took a step toward Gryphon. Suddenly getting an idea Nort reached out for the broom. "Look I’ll show you..." his finger clasped round the broom in which soon followed a wave of cold goose bumps down his back. He couldn't do it, no matter what Nort could not take hold of the broom without picturing immediate death.

Letting go now frowned "no," and folded his arms, "no i don't need to prove myself. I'm not scared and that final!" Nort not realising his childish manner turned his back to Gryphon with arms still crossed wondering how on earth he was going to get out of this one. [/size]

Gryphon watched Nort's reaction to taking hold of her broom, still clasped in her hand. It was a very curious thing. As if the broom had literally burnt something inside of him. And worry broke even more so across her face at the thought that he felt he had to prove himself to her. But why? She had just said that it was ok. That it didn't matter. They could have easily gone off to the dungeons or some other different place. Giggled in the scary nature of the dark, mossy dungeons...

When Nort refused to prove himself, Gryphon felt a little relief. He really didn't have to prove anything to her. Though, the way he was going about this in his stubborn boyish nature just wasn't right. Didn't fit with Gryphon. Why was he trying to hide this fear from her? Did he see it as a weakness that he truly didn't want to confess to. Did he think she would tease him? Did he believe that Gryphon was that horrible and stupid to tease her closest friend about one fear. To make that friend upset willingly.

All these thoughts ran through her head within a few seconds. And they stung, making Gryphon flinch.

With his back to her she could only sadly stare at the taller form sinking her teeth into her bottom lip, her pale hands fidgeting with each other. Was he angry at her?

A moment passed with complete silence and Gryphon couldn't stray her pleading gaze away from the Mihael boy. Feet planted as they had been, motionless with the exception of her frantic hands, the only evidence to her breaking all this done to dust in her head.

“You never had to prove anything to me Nort. Not before or now.” She paused feeling breathless and stupid. Continuing in a soft voice. "But you knew that didn't you?"

"yeah i know" came the answer from a now embarrassed Nort Flowers. It was a little hi and slightly kiddish but that wasn't the issue. Here he was, getting all worked up about telling one of his cloest friends his fear of heights....flying at that matter on a tiny, tiny piece of unstable look wood.

Nort turned to face Gryphon, "Sorry... don't know what came over me" he shrugged still not fully admitting his fear. She was so understanding, what had he expected though? She was his friend, his ‘Wich’, Nort just hated the idea of her not liking him anymore....maybe it was never really over the flying...but loosing Gryphon, the sweetest part of his life. It would destroy him for she was more then just his ‘Wich’ but a rock for the little Mihael boy. She was everything he wanted her to be.... so why hide his fear still?

"still not scared...never was, just....little nervous!" he admitted but fully giving in to all his worries about flying on a broom stick. Nort scuffed at the ground with his shoe, twisting it slowing in circled patterns on the dirt before the bench. His eyes were down and focused on the ground, his voice was sheepish and shy. "Have you tried it before?" [/size].

Without a further word Gryphon was suddenly hugging Nort around the waist. Her face hidden in his chest. Hopefully he wouldn't feel her current expression, that would be embarrassing. Hopefully he wouldn't know how terrified she had been in those passing moments. She knew she had been over reacting but she couldn't help it. Glad about the sudden change in his answer.

Once she was sure she had better control of her features Gryphon reluctantly pulled her head back to look at him directly in the face. Blue orb eyes shining in the light up at him a shy smile on her lips. "Nort Flowers you are the best person I know- don't ever scare me like that again, kay?" Holding that gaze for a moment she then released him. Stepping back to her standing position as before, picking up the broom she had flung away in the mists of embracing Nort abruptly.

"I've never flied before either...But so you know...I'm pretty -" What had been the word he had used? "-nervous about this too." Gryphon raised her broom to eye level, giving it a very narrowed stare. Regaining her normal friendly features when she looked back to Nort. "We don't have to go flying today you know. I mean we could just hover a bit and then come down. No crazy races or anything."

Feeling her arms round him made him feel a lot more stronger oddly enough. Her small figure seemed so fragile and he was sure if the wind were to pick up she could be snapped in two!

Nort squeezed her back, his eyebrows shifting though with her words, “scare you? How does that scare you Gryphon?” he asked realising he’d never really said her name for a long time. It was a sensation he could not explain but was saddly cold when she let go. He looked at his friend with a face of mixed emotions, what was there possibly to be scared of from thier little conversation before hand.

“What do u mean?” ashamed to know he scared her. [/size]

Gryphon lowered her own gaze to the grassy floor of the pitch. A soft sigh whispered from her lips. "i just thought..." She really didn't want to say it now, didn't want to make a fuss over it. But she knew she had to because he had asked. 'Way to use the wrong words dofus.' Answering this question would be hard, some how.

"I didn't like the idea that you felt you couldn't tell me you.. don't like the idea of flying. That you would think I would act horribly to you. Make fun of something that’s obviously is not ok for you." She paused seeming to study the floor, pale fists clenched at her sides. "I mean...I'm scared of wolves for one...I just." The hopelessness was unbearable for her own ears. "I dunno, I guess I'm being...A silly girl. I just... kinda hate that idea." Gryphon looked up now knowing she made completely no sense but continuing anyway. "...of upsetting you. And honestly, I thought I had just then."

Nort could only stare as Gryphon revealed her heart to him. He couldn't blink as his heart cried inside, he just wanted to hug her again. "Oh...Gryph..."

Nort reached out and took her face in both hands, tilting it toward his face. He smiled warmly at her. She looked so sincerely sad and it broke his heart that frown on her face. "You’re not a silly girl. I was the one being a silly girl!” Nort reached up and smoother her hair with one hand gently, “You didn't upset me, I am just a sissy who is afraid of telling someone he cares deeply for about that the idea of being supported by a thin piece of wood meters in the air where anything can go wrong and all you have to reply on is a stick to save your life really scares him!" Nort paused now, keeping eyes contact with the girl in front of him that had grown to be his bestest friend.

"You can never upset me Gryphon, i never believed that you treat me anything less then how you treat me now. Your my bestest friend ever!" and pulled her in for a hug. Wrapping his arms tightly round her small figure, "I've never met anyone like you and I shall not be letting you go of you at all! You is my favourites person in the wholest world!” [/size]

The hands which found the sides of her face were warm. Comforting. And the same with his words. Gryphon unable to stop the sudden laugh at him proclaiming that he was a silly girl. Meeting his gaze with a hopeless smile as the words sunk into her centre. The worry and gloom from before vanishing from that part of her and swelling with a new feeling.

Sinking into the embrace willingly, her own thin arms came up to hold him. Glad to be held by him again. The extremes Nort could calm her and make all the distress simply vanish just by holding her, was almost too overwhelming. Gryphon's head rested in that familiar place on his chest. A space which she could always for certain find comfort, hearing his heart throb there steadily.

"And your my bestest friend ever." Gryphon said honestly, how did this Sunday turn around to be like this? Hadn't she been staring out that window all melancholy and dull? How did she end up here, to a place she needed so badly and brought so much happiness. How in hells name did she get here a place she didn't rightfully deserve to be.

"Your too good for me Flowers. And your no sissy girl either." She looked up at him, sinking her teeth into her bottom lip while the corners of her mouth twitched up into smile.

Nort's heart swelled up like a giant balloon. This was a strange day and was not very much planned at all. Nort kept his arms wrapped round the girl who seemed to fit against his chest so nicely, as if it had been moulded just for her. Nort of course did not voice such thoughts thinking she would only laugh and joke about it instead of take him seriously.

Barely understanding them himself, Nort wondered why he was suddenly not wanting to let her go. Something inside him bubbled and made his gut gurgle, her hair seemed to give off a smell he had never noticed before but didn't dare to voice again. "so what now Sand?" he asked hoping this change of conversation would help him internally. [/size]

What now. His words echoed through her mind and Gryphon wasn't all too keen for flying anymore. Not if it ment that this boy holding her was going to be distressed.

"Well Wich, It is completely up to you if you want to try this flying thing out now." She started, shifting her arms a little tighter around him for a moment. Just to let him know if he did happen to get a little lost in worrys of flying, that she was still right here with him. "Because we really don't have to. I don't mind." Gryphon said with a smile evident in her voice.

A werid sensation over came the young Mihael at this point in time. Standing there, one hand seamlessly having found Gryphon’s hand in amongst the hug, something uncontrollable over came the boy. Silence soon surrounded them after her last words, it was his turn to speak. Yet…yet he didn’t want to, glancing down at her face a sensation like no other over came him, urging him forward toward her own.

Startled, Nort resisted the urge to close his eyes and smooth his face against hers. “I…” he paused his eyes wide and huge as they searched her own, unable to describe what had just over came him moments ago. “I think you…should fly…I’ll watch. Be your back support just incase.” He didn’t want to say ‘fall’ incase it scared her, her eyes looked most nicely when they were scared or hurt. [/size]

Feeling his warm hand in hers Gryphon only smiled all the more waiting for Nort’s reply. Already silently making plans of raiding the Kitchens. Apparently the house elves were always more than happy to give their services to any students. Perhaps they could have a mini feast! Chat with the house elves… it would be fun. She expected him to say ‘yeah lets get outta here,’ in that same old, same friendly Nort voice. When his eyes stayed pinned to hers and he didn’t look like he could find words or the right ones at least; Gryphon could only stare back waiting for the answer. Unsure of how it was going to come now. It seemed like he was struggling with something…

Instantly butterflies rose in Gryphon’s stomach, their soft wings beating away, hushed some where in her centre. Doing their job and making her nervous, though, this time it was for unknown reasons.

Her blue eyes focused only on Nort’s blues. When he did speak she was glad the strange tension was somewhat broken. Unable to not feel very small and silly in front of this boy right this very moment.

“Ok.” Her reply came just a fraction too quickly. Distracted by what had just happened and vaguely understanding that he had said they could stay here and she could fly.

Gryphon blinked her eyes fervently, tearing her gaze away from him. “As long as you’re my backup. You gottah catch me, kay?” She grinned now shaking away the other thoughts and oddness from the moment before.

Letting her hand slid free from Nort and scooping up her broom once more from the ground. Back turned away from Nort for a moment, rolling her eyes at herself. ‘Gah, what was that?!’

With a deep breath she turned to face him again, trying not to think about it, not right now, looking from the broom in her hands to Nort, bitting her pale bottom lip. Funny how problems just accumulated upon each other.

"Should I just...Hop on it? Or is there something your meant to do..er..with it." Being brought up in a normal muggle family meant she really didn’t have a clue with this wizardy sort of thing.

Resistant to break the hug but thankful it hadn't turned awkward. Nort watched as Gryphon now reached for the broom, wondering what was possibly running through her mind. Too busy thinking about something he could better suggests that they could both participate in, Nort hadn't heard her properly. "Huh...wa?" he stuttered looking down at the thinned wood Gryphon held in her hand.

He couldn't help but feel a shiver of fret run up his spin as the idea of Gryphon being souly supported by that terribly thinned stick. Nort's eyes raised in fear and worry, immediately rushing forward to take it out of her hands. "NO!" without realising his voice had raised and squeaked. His eyes widened further as he came to terms with what he'd said, "I....err. I mean....i don't know" he fumbled with the broom briefly before putting it on the ground, handing it as if by any moment it would explode on him.

After a moment or two Nort had come to a decision, "Let's do something else" and looked up to meet Gryphon's eyes with a wiry smile. "Don’t think ...." he stuck a finger in the air, "It’s a good time for flying! but yeah...wanna do something else??"[/size]

Her own eyes widened at Nort's response. Blinking at her empty palms to back at her broom in his hand now, though it was soon placed safely on the ground as if it were diseased. The corners of her lips perking up into a small devilish grin. So he was backing out on her doing this already, huh? Yes she could see the calculations going on behind those eyes and sighing inwardly Gryff couldn't help but know he would never let her fly if it were up to him.

With this resolution set in her mind she waited patiently for his deayed reply to his own outburst. She would have to do this in a way that he wouldn't have time to strap her down for her own safety, and in a way that didn't scare him too much to death. But all the same quickly. Slyly. If not now, then when? Gryphon was in second year soon to be third year why waste precious time. She could be trying out for the Mihael Quidditch team next term if she had this flying down pat. And slyly she would ahev to do this first step.

'..Yes, slyly indeed.'

"Ok. Sure how about we go to Hogsmeade and go crazy with some wiz-bangs?" Gryphon answered simply with a shrug of her slender shoulders. Scooping up her broom and looking at him with a smile on her lips. Sure that these simple words that had come out so casually would relax him for a moment. Gryphon taking a step backwards from him as if already making her way toward the Quidditch Pitch exit. Smile right there happily. Then suddenly both hands on her broom she kicked a leg over the other side standing in this pose for a moment just enough to say. "I'm sorry. I swear I'm not crazy." A wide grin on her lips as she bent her knees and pushed off the ground hard.

It was incredible. Wobbly and absolutely terrifying! But incredible. The push had sent her speeding into the air in a narrow angle toward the other end of the pitch. The air thrashing at her clothes and long blonde hair as a scream ripped through the air. A grimace of fear set over her features as she clung tightly to the broom, pulling the end to guide it through the air.
