Nort could not help but be filled with happy easy thoughts as Gryphon didn't object. "Yeah, I like the sound of that" and turned toward the exit.
Naturally she had picked up her broom, nothing weird about that in Nort's mind. Then, without hesitation, she had jumped onto her broom and was in the air apologizing. Nort hadn't even begun to turn around before the realization of what had just happened occurred to him. She was miles in the air before he could stop her, "Huh? Wa??" Nort spun round looking puzzled, stunned to see the girl soaring so very high into the sky.
"Gryph...arh” he couldn't say it. Dam it, I knew that was going to happen! But in fact having no clue in reality. But who was he kidding?? Of course she was going to hope on that broom and sore off. That’s who she was, the type of kid who wasn’t scared of nothing possibly why Nort enjoyed being round her so much.
At first shock rattled the young mans body as he feared for her safety then amusement couldn't help but set in soon afterward. "Oh dear....BE CAREFUL!" shouted Nort as he cuffed his hands to his mouth like Gryphon's mother might if she saw her baby flying so high.
Of course Gryphon couldn’t hear Nort she could barely see him even as she curved the broom around to head back towards where he was near that darn bench. The wind stinging her eyes made liquid saline weep out from the corners. Her teeth gritted as she frantically tried to understand how to fly the broom. Everyone always made it look so simple. So painfully easy. Well this was no simple and no easy. “Perhaps painful.” She said into the speeding wind not even hearing her voice leave her lips.
Her sly had worked, and a smile came to the corners of her lips with the acknowledgement. Knowing she may be killed when she did get her feet back on the earth. Best not to think about that and concentrate on moving the thin broom. ‘Why did they have to choose a twig to ride through the air on? Whhhy?’ She thought taking into account how thin and brittle looking it was.
Her palms where even whiter than they usually were pressed tightly to the broom, her chin nearly resting on the her clenched hands, too scared to sit as one should sit on a broom. Her whole body was arched as closely to the broom as possible, holding on for dear life. She could be more confident about flying when she wasn’t flying, but in the act it was a lot harder. This was terrifying! The only problem with her leaning down very closely to the broom, and Gryphon was very unaware of this, was that it naturally made the speed of the broom increase. So the speed she was being flung through the air at was extremely way too fast. Out of panic for the speed (which she thought to be normal on a broom) Gryphon attempted to slow down, trying to curved her broom to some how make it slow, but instead turning it straight into the highest golden hoop.
With a loud smack and disturbing crack sound, the broom was broken instantly in two on impact with Gryphon’s entire left side colliding sharply with the metal. No scream erupted from the girl’s lips this time and both her and the broom fell to a heap on the pitch floor.
With hands cuffed to his mouth, pacing back and forth, eyes darting from the ground to the sky where the young girl flew marched Nort. He was so worried, he hated she'd gone alone What if something happens?! and it was at that precise moment did his eyes watch in horror as Gryphon collided with one of the giant hoops and fall.
In slow motion Nort watched her fall, his heart beating fiercely in his chest as his arms automatically stretched out reaching for her as if he could almost catch her. "Gryph..." came the faint whisper as fear twisted at his guts. His eyes widened and his eyebrows jumped off his face as Nort's legs took him into a sprint and slid on his knees to her side. Clutching the girl he half rolled her into his arms and onto his lap."Gryphon? Talk to me, you ok? Talk to me Gryphon! Oh God Gryphon Talk to me!" and shook her a little as panic rose in his voice. "Gryphon!!!!"
Were her last words in the air really 'perhaps painful?' Had she not just said them, how ironic for her to slam into the damn post. How stupid of her to do such a thing.
The sand there at the foot of the three posts was cool against her bare limbs, the pain had arched up from the back of her ribs, to the shoulders and all the way down to the bottom of her left leg. Yet the coolness of the ground was a comforting pressure against them. The ground had come sooner than she anticipated it to; Gryphon's heart barely pounded three thumps in panic before she had hit the earth. There she lay crumpled and feeling the lurking presence of unbearable pain catching up on her.
She could have screamed then, and she wanted to but her lungs were feeling heavier and her head was spinning too fast.
Hearing Nort's soft voice all she could do in this numb however agonizing state was lamely murmur; "Did you see me tumble?" The corners of her mouth lifting into a withered smile, her centre shaking as she laughed silently and winced with the pain it brought. Oh and the pain. Piercing shots of heat pulsed through her, burning on her left side hideously. That was when she noticed she couldn't move her left fingertips, or her arm, or leg.
"Nort?" Gryphon said fear rising in her small voice and features, "I can't feel them, I...I can't move them."
