Xiomara had just put up the roster on the board in the Great Hall. She was sure that everyone was quite excited about the new season, seeing as they would actually be having games. So she had re-vamped the style of practices a bit, and was pretty excited herself to give them a go. She had already informed Nathaniel and Alexander about what was going on, and she had owled Ethan (who was at home for a few weeks) letting him know that practice was being held. So today’s practice was sure to turn out fairly well. Everyone would be there, and they had a full roster. Nothing could be better.
And plus, she had a surprise for them all. She hadn’t told anyone about it, in fact, the only one she discussed this ‘secret’ with was Avery Moretti. Now that the roster had been posted and everyone knew that practice was happening, she decided she’d better prepare for it. After all, she intended for them to get in at least two hours of straight practice. So quickly running back to the Slytherin common room, she changed into her quidditch robes, got the key to the locker room and then grabbed her Firebolt XS and hurried back out and into the corridor.
The walk to the pitch seemed quicker than usual, maybe because she was more excited than usual for practice, or perhaps it was just because she had been longing to get out on her broom once again. She couldn’t pin point it exactly. And as Xiomara finally reached the pitch, she looked on it and reflected for a moment. And then, as she stood there she felt all the excitement drain from her.
Wait… Nathaniel. Xiomara was so busy preparing for practice, that she hadn’t really thought about him. There was so much going on with Nathaniel right now, and it had been a few days since she’d seen him. She wasn’t sure how she would act around him. Of course she’d remain bright and smiling, the way she always was with everyone. But this was going to be much harder than usual. She’d spilled her feelings out to him and she had yet to hear from him since that very strange afternoon. But this was quidditch. Xiomara just needed to think about quidditch, after all they were both old enough to be professional about everything that was going on. Quidditch and life outside of quidditch were two very different things.
Blowing off these thoughts, Xiomara walked over to the locker structure, setting her broomstick against the wall as she fumbled through her keys. She finally found the key, it was the one that had a golden snitch on the end, the wings flapped slowly, as it was a very ancient key. Placing the key into the key holder, she turned it quickly and there was a soft clicking sound as she placed her fingertips on the door handle and pulled it open. Stepping inside, Xiomara drug out the quidditch chest. It was an old black chest with bronze hinges and other bronze designs. She remembered the old set of quidditch balls, the ones Lils had drawn on. She missed those.
There was something she was forgetting. Ah, yes. She had nearly forgotten to pull out the new uniforms. This was another thing Xiomara found herself quite happy about. So stepping back into the locker room she pulled out a large bin that was full of neatly wrapped packages with glowing gold letters inscribed on them, initialing each member of the team. Each new uniform was black with a bright green snake embellished on it, the only difference was that it slithered over the shoulder of the wearer and hissed at opponents. And on the back of the robes were the last names of the players, written in golden threads that sparkled day or night. Xiomara’s father had designed them, and even though he wasn’t as creative as Xiomara’s mother had been before she died, he still did a wonderful job at choosing the perfect style for the team.
Xiomara decided that she’d wait for everyone to arrive before taking out the quaffle and such, seeing as it would be pretty pointless. So folding her arms, she leaned beside her broomstick against the wall of the locker room, staring out toward the grounds as she waited for the other teammates to arrive. She wondered who would get there first. Usually it was Nathaniel, or Alexander. But now there were three new additions to the team. And all three of them looked promising to her. They were each skilled at what they did, and although Pierce James hadn’t been given the position he’d asked for, he’d still made the team. So hopefully he wanted to be on it still.[/ul]
