Walking in to the class room, Carina dumped her bag on the floor. After going to her brother's flat and then making it back to Hogwarts safely last night, Carina was feeling much better. Add the sleeping potion before bed and she was almost able to forget everything that was going on in time for class. Wasting no time, Carina unlocked the cabinet in the back.

Walking around, Carina took a moment to look over the room and make sure everything was clean. Once back at her desk, Carina leaned over to dig around in her bag. Pulling a book from her bag, Carina opened it to the page she had marked. It was a very old potion, one no longer in use for the most part. But it seemed rather useful. And it would be good practice. Tapping her wand on the board, the name and the ingredients appeared.

After that, Carina reached in her desk and pulled out several rubber balls. Tapping a wand to a few of them, Carina placed mild curses on each that she touched. They of course, would be used to demonstrate the potions.

Selena enter the Potions room quietly thinking that she was late. She looked around and saw no one but the professor. She had her note book, her sketch book which was below the note book, and her midnight blue quill. The Ravenclaw Prefect walked over to the back corner which is where she always sits and wait for the lesson to start.

She put down everything that she had in her hand at put it on the table. When Selena looked at the board she had to write:

After that she took out her sketch book to pass the time when people started to come in. She started to finish a picture that she started but not finished from a long time ago.

The Potions classroom wasn't that far from where the Slytherin was so there was no need to just rush into class like she usually do. Usually, she rush to class when she knew that she is late but she didn't sense that she was even late. Carrying watches might be useful, but she is too lazy for that. She wouldn't even look at it so what's the point?

When Kali reached the classroom, she sat back at her usual spot and wrote down what was on the board; the potion and the ingredients. It took a moment before the Slytherin once again looked back at her note. Cursed items? What would they need to use that for? she thought to herself before simply shrugging. She would find out sooner or later why this...cursed item would be needed for the potion...hopefully.

Potions. One of Astrid's favorite classes because it challenged her. Astrid had always loved a challenge, ever since she was a little girl. She didn't like the classes that were a breeze for her. She wanted to have to use her brain. Besides, it was good to be knowledgeable in Potions. You would be able to make different potions to heal people, and to destroy them. She walked into the classroom and took a seat at the first desk she spotted. She was excited about today's lesson, because she had no idea what Afflicti Opthma was.

Oh monkey bubbles! She had potions to hurry and get to. Amanda couldn't miss today since she had missed their last lesson. She didn't even know what went on, but she wasn't going to miss this lesson. Hurrying down the halls, she slid around the corner, almost losing her balance as she did. Luckily she grabbed onto some first year to prevent her from falling. =)

Down the hall, she proceeded, a few doors further down, she entered with a faint smile. I'm early? What was the point of hurrying!? That poor first year. She snickered to herself as she went to take a seat in the middle of the classroom.

Holden had quietly walked into Potions. Since it was his favorite class he didn't mind showing up. The only class he really didn't like was Herbology. Yuk. Not that he didn't like the teacher it was just the whole tree-hugging part. Bleh.

He found and empty seat in front of Amanda Larsen and began copying notes for his benefit. Holden's quill wrote in [color=red

The long days of studies, and, classes, always tired this Slytherin, although, she enjoyed what she did. Elesy walked down to the Potions classroom, in not very much of a rush, but, still quick enough. She entered the classroom, and, took and unusual seat in the front row, on the end. Elesy then read over the board.


She took down what it said, then, she waited, very still, and, calm. Elesy had been ready for class, and, she was just happy. Elesy smiled, waiting for the class to begin.[/font]

Yay Potions. Lizzy loved potions. Walking down the halls Lizzy found herself outside the potions room once again. Smiling to herself she entered. Yay there was a potion on the board. Taking a seat at random she pulled out some ink, parchment, quill, and her potions kit.

Looking up at the board she copied down the potion and ingredients for the potion they would be doing today.

Violet walked to potions. Wow. It has been a really really long time since she'd been there. Violet's been too busy with things happening here and there that she hadn't really gotten that much done. She constantly needed to go home which sucks, in one way.

Violet took a seat and wrote down what was on the board. Obviously she needed a lot of catching up to do. And by a lot, she means A LOT.

Noting that the class was filling up, Carina smiled. While the turn out wasn't as good as with the younger years, it was still rather good. Which, of course, was wonderful news, especially since the potion they would be working on would not be found in any of their text books. A shame really, since this was a most useful potion.

Her watch chimed, indicating that it was time to begin. Standing from her chair, Carina cleared her throat. As a norm, Carina rarely lectured the class on a potion, feeling that for the most part, the textbooks were rather complete. This potion, however, was a rather old one and not one that is used everyday. Therefore, it failed to appear in school text. That, in its self, made it worthy of a lecture.

"Now, we might as well get started. Today's potion is Afflicti Opthma. It's simple enough to make and can be extremely useful. Quite simply, this potion can test any object for curses." Since the potion could in no way be harmful to the students, Carina had decided to once again go against the norm of testing the potions herself.

"This potion you all will test yourselves. On my desk are two piles of balls. One cursed and one not cursed. When the potion is done, take one from each pile and dip it into your potion. If the water starts churning in a circular motion, the item is cursed. If the water stays still, the item is not cursed. And you may begin." That all being said, Carina turned and tapped her wand against the board.

Heat cauldron until it is hot to the touch.

Slowly add water from the buckets, spilling it out as though it is pouring from a waterfall.

Bring water to a boil.

Crack the dragon's egg and separate out the yolk.

Pour yolk into the cauldron.

Stir until is distributed evenly through the water.

Add the bat's eyes a pair at a time.

Remove from fire and let sit for 13 minutes.

Eric strolled down the corridor dreading his next class. Potions was his worse class no matter what he did he always seem to fail at it. He did not understand it. If it was not for the fact that Carina was teaching it he would just not even bother going to it at all but she would definitely contact his dad if he failed to show up again.

Eric opened the door looked around same faces as always. No one he knew though, so he sat in the back at a table by his self and looked up at the board. Before he sat his bag down he took out some parchment and a quill and wrote down the days potion. Disaster waiting to happen

As soon as Professor Erikson began talking he wrote his notes as fast as he could. She talked fast! He could hardly keep up with her. Grawr. Holden would have to learn how to get one of those quills that wrote themselves or chant one. Would make things a lot more easier than writing. Plus, his hand was getting cramped.

As soon as the Potions teacher was done with the notes Holden got up and began heating the cauldron. As the cauldron was burning he added water as slowly as he could. While the fifth year waited for the water to boil he got a dragon's liver egg and began separating the yolk. When he was done with that he got some bat eyes.[/size][/blockquote]

The Slytherin quickly took down notes. She wrote down the instructions and gathered her materials to put it away. She then stood to take the ingredients. She wondered who invented such potion. How did they ever thought of that?

As soon as all her notes was done, she began making her potion. The Slytherin had her cauldron heated but she was sure that it was not hot even yet so she stood there, looking around the classroom to just see what everyone else was doing; cause she was bored.

A few minutes passed and the Slytherin checked to see if the cauldron was hot enough [by simply placing her hands a few inches away from the heating cauldron]. When it was surely hot enough, she began pouring in water. Again, the Slytherin waited for the water to boil. All the ingredients she needed was there so there was no need for her to just go around.

It figured as soon as he sat down she would start the class proper. Oh well mind as well get this started. Eric got what he needed for the potion. He wrote down what he needed to know then got to work.

To test potion get two balls one from each pile and dip them in the potion. If the water churns the ball is cursed if it stays still it is not cursed.

Eric set the cauldron to heat. As he waited for it to get hot he got his water ready. Once the cauldron was hot he poured his water in it ran out of the bucket like a waterfall, a fast waterfall but still a waterfall. While waiting for the water to boil he broke his dragon’s egg and separated the yolk from it. Eric looked his water was boiling so he poured his yolk in it. He stirred it until it was distributed evenly throughout the water at least it looked even to him. Eric picked up his bat’s eyes and added them a pair at a time. He then removed his cauldron from the heat and set his watch to chime it 13 minutes.


While he waited for his watch to chime he went and got two balls. He picked up one from the cursed pile and one from the non cursed pile and went back to his table. Finally his watch chimed he dipped the first ball and the water stayed still then he dipped the other one the stayed still again. Eric raised his hand “Professor Erickson what did I do wrong my potion is not reacting to either ball.?”

As the directions appeared up on the board Lizzy started copying them down verbatum(he he big words) as usual. Since she knew it wouldn't take long to write down the notes she put the cauldron over a little fire she made so it would heat while she wrote down the directions.

When done with her notes Lizzy tapped the edge of the cauldron to see if it was the right temperature. Since it was she continued on with step two of the potion. Slowly she poured the 5 buckets of water from a waterfall in so it was like a small waterfall. Once she was done with that she looked around ot see how the rest of the class was doing.

The fifth year Hufflepuff added the yolk to the cauldron after the water was steaming and bubbling madly. Now he began to stir until it was perfectly even. Three circles clockwise. Three circles counter-clockwise. Holden continued to do this as he hummed to himself. It was quite quiet without Avery, Jackson, or Levi here. It was quite soothing yet quite..boring.

After the yolk was perfectly even in the cauldron he added two bat eyes. Ew. Touching them with his bare hands. They were quite dry actually stead of moist. It was quite the experience. But good thing they weren't slimy or he'd freak out. Fresh dead bat thought. Ew.

Holden added two more bat eyes and continued stirring. His arms were getting tired of stirring so he sat down the big wooden spoon and sat down. He would let it boil and cook before he took it off the fire to wait exactly thirteen minutes before he poured it into the two balls.

To busy herself before the water boils, the Slytherin hummed to herself, only softly though that no one could hear it, at least she thinks so. Kali looked back at the cauldron and sure enough, it was boiling. Time for the next step then.

The next step was to just crack the egg, that is a dragon egg and separate the yolk out. Kali had cracked eggs before but she wasn't sure that she had cracked a dragon's. Carefully, the Slytherin girl separated the yolk from the white of the egg. When she was done, she continued on the next step, that is to pour the yolk to the cauldron, and that was what she did next.

Stir. Stir. Stir. That's the next step, not that it said that she had to stir three times only or anything. What she needed to do was just stir until it was distributed evenly, just like the direction. She wouldn't want the yolk to be just one big blab of yellow.

Add the bat's eyes a pair at a time. Ugh. Bat's eye. Poor bats, thought the Slytherin as she added a pair of bat's eye at a time. The Slytherin stood there for a second, just watching the eyes but quickly looked away and look down on her notes.

Remove from fire and let sit for 13 minutes. The Slytherin carefully removed the cauldron from the fire and waited. After the long 13 minutes had passed, she went and got a ball from each pile. The Slytherin slowly dipped the ball on her left hand and watched as the water began to churn in circular motion.

Kali looked at her notes and read it. So that means the ball is cursed then? Okay...wow...

Oopsie doodle. Avery was late. Well, it wasn't her fault. The sea of little first years was the worst thing to get caught in. She was running late as it was coming out of the Great Hall when all of the first years seemed to realize they were late as well. What followed was a mass of little kids shoving their way through the crowd, squealing at one another to move. She wished she had a shiny Prefect badge then so she could just be like, 'I'm a Prefect! Get out of my way! There are special... Prefect duties I must attend to!' But no, she didn't have one.

And she was just as short as the first years. So nobody moved for her because she was a 'creepy older year'. No one could even tell. Pouting, she shoved her way through the crowd and ran to Potions. Slipping inside, she saw that everything was pretty much started. Groaning, she spotted Holden and sat next to him, giving him a kiss on the cheek and saying, "Hey."

Looking at Holden's notes, she copied them down quickly. She might need them for exams or something.

Woo. With that done, she began to start her potion. First, she heated her cauldron. After a little while, she poked it quickly to discover it being hot. Then, she took her four buckets of water from a waterfall and started pouring them inside like they were falling from a waterfall. Gosh, they were kind of heavy. Luckily, she had some muscle because of Quidditch. :]

Then, she waited for the water to boil. While waiting, she poked Holden and asked, "So this potion just tests for cursed things? Do you just put the item in the potion to find out if it's cursed or not?"

After Carina had put the directions onto the board, she took a seat on the top of her desk, legs curled up under her. Pulling a notebook towards her, Carina flipped it open to where her notes for the potion was at. Truth be told, Carina didn't know a lot about this potion, as she had only had time to make it once before time for class rolled around.

Biting her thumb, a nervous habit she had as a child, Carina glanced up when she heard her name. It should have been no surprise to her that it was Eric that called for her. And again, no surprise that his potion wasn't doing what it was supposed to. Setting her notes down, Carina slipped from her desk and made her way over. "Hmm." It seemed to look right, as she peered down in the cauldron. "What did you do to it? Never mind, don't answer that."

Picking up the two balls, Carina waved her wand over them, just to make sure he hadn't accidently picked up two of the non cursed balls. As one glowed bright red and the other didn't, she knew that wasn't the case. Leaning back against one of the desks, Carina chewed on the tip of her thumb as she thought. Picking up the cursed ball, Carina carefully dipped it into the potion. When it failed to do anything, Carina frowned.

"I don't know what to tell you, Eric. It looks right, so I'm not sure where you could have gone wrong." Waving her wand at the cauldron, the failed potion disappeared. "We still have some time. Why don't you start over and I'll stand here and watch what you're doing." Carina offered.

Kaelyn walked into the Potions classroom - surprise, surprise! - late, once again. She didn't know how the others managed to do it. This school was just so large. It took forever to get from place to place even if you set out early.

Sighing she took out a piece of parchment and glanced at the board.

After she finished writing, she began to heat up her cauldron and headed off to the supply closet to gather the ingredients needed.
