Sixth and Seventh Year, Class Three

[Professor Carina Erikson]

Term was well underway now and everyone should know where all the classrooms where and their own schedules. That should help cut down on people being late. It was a thought Carina had as she entered her room. Dropping her bag on the floor, Carina was extremely glad the curse she had been hit with in the forest a while back had hit her left arm and not her right.

She had gone to the hospitial wing like she had promised but Sessy had not been there, so Carina had gone back to her room and bandaged it the best she could. She had simply not had the time to go back and find Sessy again. Holding her left arm close to her body, as it still hurt to move it, Carina began writing today's potion on the board.

As Carina sat at her desk, waiting for the students to arrive, she wished she had put her robes on this morning. The bandages could be seen peeking out from under the sleeve of her t-shirt, but alas, she couldn't get them on this morning without hurting herself, so she had left them off.

This was going to be Jackson's first potions class this term without Avery or Holden. Bummer. He so enjoyed them, but he didn't think that Professor Erikson did so much. Everytime he entered the potions room he was reminded of their hot pink exploding potion and would grin like mad. But this time around, he'd be stuck to do his potin and nothing else. He bet he'd keep his mouth shut tight the entire lesson, since there wasn't any reason to talk.

Entering in the classroom he looked around, realizing he was the first to arrive. Great. He gave a polite nod to the professor, noticing a small amount of bandages, he raised a dark eyebrow curious. Shaking his head he sunk into his seat, taking out paper and his pen, scribbling down what was written on the board. Once he'd finished that, he took to doodling two little stick figures surounded in hearts, labeling one 'Avery' and the other 'Jackson'.

Alexander ran into the classroom, almost half teared eye. Simply for one reason. His little sister was leaving the grounds of Hogwarts and one person where he could go to was Carina Erickson his old captain. "..C-Carin-na if you d-don't mind may I see y-y-you later after -" class, but he couldn't finish what he was going to say. This news affected him to mucn and Rainne wasn't around. At least he didn't know where to contact her. But of course he had much of a closer relationship with Carina then Rainne.

Alex rubbed his dark emerald green eyes, nothing good was coming out of this day. And with a potion in which he was very curious about, made him feel even worse. Knowing the truth about things weren't so good at all. At that was today's potion Veritaserum, aka Truth Potion in stupid kid terms.

Sitting down back into his chair. He placed his head down, covering his face. Alex looked awful.

Needless to say, Carina was surprised when Alex came running into class. He was upset, she could tell. She was suprised again when he asked if he could see her after class. He could, of course, no questions asked. But she couldn't help but to wonder what was going on to make him come to her. Wouldn't he feel better going to Nate or Mara or someone like that. But she supposed he had his reasons. "Of course, Alex. Anytime." Carina would have continued but her watch chimed that it was time to start.

"Alright Jackson, Alex. Might as well get started. It takes a while to brew this, so we'll jump right in to it." Tapping her wand against the board, the directions appeared.

1. Preheat cauldron for two minutes.
2. Add three ounces of acromantula venom.
3. Add one sprig of dittany.
4. Stir clockwise six times.
5. Add boomslang skin and helleborer.
6. Stir counter clockwise four times.
7. Add knotgrass.
8. Wait three minutes to allow potion to swell.
9. Remove from fire and allow to sit for ten minutes.
10. Bottle and bring to the front.

"All your ingredents have already been measured out and are sitting on the desks. If you need any help at all, just ask."

Third potions class for the term. 2 out of 2 potions worked, so Jodi was feeling a little more confident that normal. Walking in, she saw two Slytherins, and the potion they would make for the day already on the board. Maybe it wasn't just her late, maybe the whole class was late. Jodi quickly took a seat and wrote down the intructions from the board. She gathered all of the ingrediants that she needed and turned on her cauldron to preheat it.

Landon walked into potions. It looked like the class had alread started. There were not many students here, though. A lot of people were going to be late. He sighed and took a seat in the middle of the classroom. He took out a peice of parchment paper and began to take all the notes on the board down onto the peice of paper.

After he wrote things down he gathered up all the ingredians:
dittany
hellebore
knotgrass
acromantula venom
boomslang skin

He walked back to his cauldron with the ingrediants and put them to the side. He began to preheat. He than began to add the three ounces of acromantula venom after waiting two minutes.

Éowyn ran into the Potions classroom and smiled at the Professor and looked at the board. As she sat down she took out her parchment and put her wand to it. The instructions appeared on the paper. Éowyn started her potion. She preheated her cauldron and added the three ounces of venom to the water and added one sprig of Dittany and stired it clockwise six times and then added the boomslang skin and helleborer. Éowyn then out in the knotgrass and waited three minutes and the potion swelled before her eyes. She then removed it from the fire and allowed it to sit for ten minutes. Éowyn then took out a little glass vial and bottled it and took it to the front "Here you are Professor" she said setting it on her desk.

Walking hurriedly into the class, Monica grimaced, seeing the class had already started. Her plans on becoming an Auror in the near future depended on her actually showing up and getting high marks in her classes, and potions class held vital information if she were to be a successful Auror. She looked to the board, however, and smiled slightly. This was a good potion that she'd always wanted to make.

She quickly made her way to one of the stations, dropping her bag hastily on the ground and pulling her wand from her pocket, creating a fire under the cauldron to heat it. She looked up at the list of ingredients, then pulled her Quick Quotes Quill from her bag along with a piece of parchment, setting it up to copy down what was on the board. Smiling slightly at the perk of having already measured ingredients, Monica set to work.

After two minutes, Monica added the venom and dittany, then began to stir clockwise the instructed six times. She paused a moment, looking up at the other students to see where they were at. One of them had already turned their potion in. She frowned, going back to her own and quickly added the boomslang skin and helleborer, stirring it counter clockwise four times after words. She looked to her notebook, squinting at the writing for a moment then added her supply of knotgrass, and waited the said three minutes, watching her potion bubble and setting her wrist watch.

Monica looked up to the professor, thinking for a moment. How would she be marking them on their potions? She cleared her throat quietly, then spoke up. "Professor? Are you going to be testing our potions once they're done?" Suddenly, she heard a small chime that was her watch. She hastily removed her potion from the fire, careful not to get scorched by the fire or hot clear liquid. She set her watch once again and awaited the Professor's answer.

Carina had taken a seat back at her desk as the students began working on their potions. Pulling a stack of parchments toward her, Carina took the first one and began grading. With a sigh, Carina paused and reached in her top drawer for the red ink she kept there. Being they were the essay's of first years, she was going to need it. Dipping her quill into the ink, Carina made it about half way through the first essay when she heard a voice come from one of the students.

It surprised her, to say the least. She hardly ever had the students ask questions, yet she did try to encourage it. Raising her head, she gave Monica a smile after she figured out who it was that had spoken. "Yes, Monica, I personally test every potion that the students make. While it's too risky to have the students test them, the only way to see if they turned out right is to take the potion as intended to see if it works. If the potion is questionable or might have adverse effects, I either test them in the hospitial wing or I go to Professor Linn's office and he keeps an eye on me."

"You test them on yourself? Do you have someone ask you questions when it comes to these particular ones?" Monica asked with curiosity. She found that rather odd, but if it gave her a good grade, she didn't mind. She sighed quietly, leaning against a desk while she waited for the timer to go off on her watch. Considering the power this potion was supposed to hold, it seemed rather simple to make. For her future profession she'd most likely have to carry a supply around with her, or even just study it for her own safety.

So far she'd done everything as instructed and she felt completely confident in her results. If she remembered right, the potion was meant to end up clear, and so far, as she peeked over the rim of her cauldron, she was going to get good results. As her watch chimed once again, Monica straightened up, picking up a bottle from her work station. She filled it with her cooled Veritaserum, corking it and wiping up the bottle from any stray droplets. She took it up to the professor's desk, then went to sit back down at her station, waiting for any further instruction.
