6th and 7th years: Lesson 4 [Knotgrass]

Finally it came to the end of the day, in late afternoon, when his fifth years left to go to their next class. He cleared the board of last lesson's plant and wrote down the sixth and seventh years' plant today, Knotgrass. Then dusting his hands off again, on his trousers, he took a seat behind his desk, preparing his lecture and their homework for tonight.

Now it was going to be less then a half of a month till the term ends. Very soon Joe Moon might never see this place again. Soon he was going to get a job that he will keep and move on. A little more than two years ago the Head Boy was in first year. He was only fourteen, maybe thirdteen, he doesn't remember now. Soon it will all end for gratuation.

It was the late afternoon and it was time for his Herbology class. The last lesson they didn't cover much but still went through the class nicely. Joe kept on walking to the greenhouse till he got there. About a minute later the Head Boy open the greenhouse doors and saw no one but the Professor. "Good afternoon Professor Lynn," Joe said to him and took a seat.[/size]

Stepping out onto the grounds Jas frowned has the sun shined in her face. Lowering her head she quickly walked to her next class. Walking into the greenhouse she found only two others had arrived. This was kind of new to her since she was use to being late to almost every class. Taking a seat in the middle of the room she waited for class to begin.

Landon walkd into class to see he was the third student in. He sighed and took a seat next to Jow, his good old friend. The other girl he didn't know but he gave her a smilie. He sat down and got his things organised. He wondered what they were going to do today but he didn't have a chance to look at the board.

He looked at the board. Knotgrass. Thep lant sounded fimilar. He thought he read about it somehwere. Maybe he'd remember when they got through it a little. He sighed nad leaned down in his chair and waited for more students to arrive.

There was two people that showed up. One of them that he didn't know but he knew that she was the Gryffindor Quidditch Caption. The other one Joe knew really well. His name was Landon Haden. He was a vampire like Roxy, his other friend. Roxy, Landon, and Joe were best friends ever. (That are in seventh year) There are lots of trio's of friends out there at the castle. Only a few students arrived. Seems like today everyone wasn't wanting to attend Herbology. No worries though. Timothy could still continue with those who did attend. "Good afternoon class. Knotgrass. It's also knowns as centinode, ninety-knot, nine-joins, allseed, bird's tongue, sparrow tongue, red robin, armstrong, cowgrass, hogweed, pigweed, pigrush, swynel grass, and swine's grass." He gasped as the end for air and then smiled to his students.

"The whole herb is used for all purposes. Knotgrass, a perennial, is abundant everywhere. It's a common weed in arable land, on waste ground, and by the roadsides. Also known as Polygonum aviculare, the uses of Knotgrass is for arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, gout, lumbago, and repetitive strain injury." Standing up from his chair, he rounded his desk to stand before the students.

"Knotgrass is a long-standing traditional remedy for arthritis and general inflammatory joint conditions. It appears as a weed in many temperate countries and is difficult to eradicated once established, due to its strong root and runner syster below soil level." Arms crossed, he took a minute or two for the students to jot down some notes. "The active substances of this plant have not yet been studied extensively.

"Knotgrass is known to contain silica, which can help to improve the elasticity and strength of connective tissues in the body, in particular the joints. In addition, the plant appears to work as an anti-inflammatory agent by helping the body eliminate toxins."

^{Natalia entered the Herbology classroom, only to find that the lesson had already begun. She quietly made her way to the nearest seat, not wanting to disturb the lesson. Quickly, she got out her parchment and quill and wrote down all she could about knotgrass. It was a possibility for exam material. She'd already finished one exam, and she felt confident that she passed it. She wanted to have that same confidence in all her classes. Natalia was all too ready to graduate, and that excitement was starting to overcome her. These exams needed to come soon, or she'll soon forget all that she studied. Once she finished with her notes, she looked up at the teacher for further information about anything.}

"Other species of knotgrass are Polygonum Arifoleum, or sickle-grass, which is also Halbertleaved Tear-thumb, and Hectate Knotgrass. Polygonum Erectum, or Russian Knotgrass. Polygonum Viviparum, the Alpine Knotweed, which is a small perennial and found in British mountain alipine pastures." Adding the last bit of information, he collected the homework ontop his desk and began to distribute them.

"Alright class, your final is on Friday, the twelfth of October. After that, I'll have a final list available of those passing this class or failing. Any questions or concerns, you make sure to come and see me privately." After he was done announcing that bit of information, Timothy changed his mind about the homework for the sixth and seventh years and decided best they should use their valuable time studying. "Well that's all I've got for you. You're all dismissed."
