Gyminee entered the room glad that the lesson hadn't exactly started yet. Gyminee was also glad that she over heard the teacher talking about how he was replacing Ms.Kohn and how they were going to learn about mandrakes. Gyminee did not like asking many questions. SO when she entered she sat on her seat waiting for the next step.
Lifting her hand eagerly as a question had popped into her mind at the sight of the earmuffs, Gryphon smiled brightly at Professor Linn. "What do we need the ear muffs for?" She asked curiously, Nort's thick glasses still perched on her nose. Fiddling with her own ear muffs that had appeared in front of her. Of course she already had the gloves on finding them silently amusing.

"Hey!" Avery said to Sabra, who had just walked in. "You didn't miss much, I don't think we're starting yet... I dunno though, I wasn't really listening, hahaha. Unless..." he looked uneasily at the pots in front of him. "No, I honestly have no clue. Troy? Liyah?" he asked them, wondering what they were supposed to be doing. He didn't know if it was a good idea to ask Aaliyah, she seemed quite embarrassed about something. Avery noticed a bruise forming on her forehead, and he got a vague idea of her bumping her head against something. Moving his eyes immediately away from the bruise, he looked around the class to see if anyone else was going to start.
Mandrakes. Right. As Bren received the earmuffs, he frowned at the sight of them. Fluffy. Too fluffy. As he let them hang around his neck, he got a pot in front of him. Mandrakes - what were they again? As he ducked down to check his textbook in his bag, he hit his head against the table. Ouch! Rubbing the sore spot, he searched for the Mandrakes, and came across the page. Oh. So that's why they needed earmuffs.
Their call was fatal to anyone who heard it. Satisfied with what he knew, he jumped back up, and awaited furthur instructions from the Professor, giving a smile to Viv at the same time.

Looking at the late comers to his class, Timothy settled back against his desk as more of the students within his house were becoming a bit too chatty. "Alright, enough of the chit-chat. You can do that on your own time, not during my time here. You know, this is a lesson and I may change my mind about no homework. We've got a lot period ahead of us."
It was no wonder Timothy still admired his first group of students when he began teaching. They listened and were very well mannered when it came to coming to class. They were actually quiet. "Good question Gryphon. You won't be putting them on yet, but they are to muffle out the shrieking cries of the Mandrake when we begin to repot them. You'll learn about that in a moment.
"So let us begin. Mandrake, or Mandragora, are found in temperate climates worldwide and are grown frequently for the powerful restorative they can be turned into. The most distinguishing characteristics are their resemblance to small, ugly babies, and the 'cry'." He began, pausing for a few minutes for the students to write down some vital information.
"Most wizards now believe the resemblance to human babies was initially intended to help spread mandrakes out and avoid over population. Ancient humans would often pick them and carry them great distances as toys or curiosities, until the mandrake chose to slip away and replant itself in the new area."
Shayna sat in her corner writing down notes and listening to the class. Sometimes when you were silent you were invisible so she was happy about that and just sat there listening to the class continue.
He had arrived only moments ago, but he sat still listening to Professor Linn. It was only their second lesson of Herbology, and he felt quite glad that horrid TA had gone. He looked to his side, to whom he was sitting beside. A girl. Having not seen her before, Mattias gave a small wave. It was somewhat nice to see new faces.
Ayame was still blushing a bit at being so late. She had taken a seat in the back of the room a few moments ago, and was hoping no one had noticed her late arrival. She quickly and quietly took out parchment and a quill and began taking notes.

As much as he was flattered by the questions the students were asking, he had wished they would wait since he was getting to that part. First Gryphon and now Gaara. "I'm actually getting to that part. Thanks Gaara." Timothy replied with a brief smile. "The cry was not fatal back then, serving the double purpose of informing other mandrakes of one's location, as well as seeming more babyish for the helpful humans.
"This coexistence with humans came to an abrupt end about two hundred years ago, when wizards discovered the healing restorative properties of ground up or cut up mandrake. Mandrakes became absolutely essential for almost any antidote, especially those who are petrified. It was this turn of events that caused the mandrake to develop a fatal cry, when they are fully grown adults, as well as become far more ugly in an attempt at survival."
Finally, he had given the answer to why the ear muffs were needed and the cries of mandrakes. "Since these mandrakes are only babies, their cries will only knock you out unconcious for an hour or so. Alright, once you are all done, I would like for you to ready yourselves to replant these baby mandrakes. Make sure your ear muffs are on and gloves. I've provided you all with supplies. The instructions will appear on the board in a moment."
How to replant your Mandrake
1. Ready your supplies: A large planting pot, new top soil, water pales full of little water, and dragon blood. Don't forget your ear muffs, gloves, and your Mandrake! 2. First put on your gloves and ear muffs. 3. Then grasp onto the Mandrake's neck above the soil and pull out of pot. (Caution: The shrill cry will be muffled, so you may feel the effects of nausea or headaches after.) 4. Set the Mandrake in it's new pot. Cover with soil until the root is no longer seen. (By this time, the Mandrake will play with the soil until fully covered, and then will quiet down.) 5. Add at least five drops of dragon blood into the soil. (This will fertilize the soil better.) 6. Sprinkle a small amount of water in the pot. (But not too much! You'll drown the little bugger.) 7. Name your Mandrake and write it on the pot. Then place your pot by the window where there is plenty of sunshine.
Once all his instructions were on the board, Timothy turned to his students. "You all may begin!"
Ayame quickly gathered her supplies. She securly put on her ear muffs, and tightened her gloves. She had places to be today, being knocked was not an option. She looked around her, and waited untill everyone had put on their ear muffs. She waited patiantly for the slowpokes. Hmm, she thought, the last direction says to "name your mandrake" should I acctually name it, or just write my name? I'll do both. Hmm, now what's a good name for a mandrake?
Sadie had arrived in time to catch the tail end of the information about Mandrakes that the Professor was telling the class. She had slipped in quietly, careful not to disrupt, then found herself a seat and avidly scratched down the useful information into her notes. When the instructions appeared on the board, the girl was careful to copy them exactly. Once finished she hurried to put on her ear muffs and gloves before anyone actually pulled out a mandrake root. It wouldn't do for her to pass out in class.
Next she went for the supplies, claiming a sizable pot, a bag of soil and a water pale, barely able to balance it all with the container of dragon's blood that she carried to her workspace. Setting them down gently, she spread them out at the ready for this project. She went back for a pot containing a mandrake, bringing it to the area as well. Sadie grasped the creature/plant firmly and popped it out of its old planter. Wincing at the horrid sounds that emerged, the girl set it down in its new pot and immediately dumped the new soil in around the shrieking little beasty.
As she did this, the girl noticed a throbbing pain that rose in her head. This assignment was most unpleasant... though once the little plant had began to settle down again it became bearable. She took the container of dragons blood, tilting it carefully so as only to let the five drops escape onto the dirt. Next of course was a light sprinkling of water. Glancing back down across her notes, Sadie realized that she was mostly finished. That hadn't been too bad, though she still had the remnants of her headache. Taking out her quill Sadie wrote along the side of the pot "Fredrick", then a dash and her own name and house beside it. She picked up the pot and moved it to a prime location in a nice warm pool of sunlight that was streaming in onto the windowsill.
Satisfied with her work, the girl returned to her seat. She kept the ear muffs on to shield her from the rest of the class's shrieking mandrake roots. Sadie had arrived as quietly as she could and worked the same way. The Gryffindor hoped that this would be enough to make up for her tardiness.

As the teacher finished talking...Gyminee followed the instructions

"skye" Gyminee wrote on the pot and placed it by the window.

Ah, yes. Aaliyah's favorite part was getting her fingernails in the dirt. Although she was a little unsettled with the fact that this was dangerous work, she was also curious to see how 'ugly' these mandrakes had become over generations. Suddenly she forgot about the bruise on her forehead and the fact that she had run into a door. She was excited to get going.
Aaliyah quickly grabbed her supplies, including a pair of blue earmuffs. She noticed there was two pairs of bright pink earmuffs. She handed them to Ave and Troy with a smirk. Then she placed her own earmuffs over her ears. That definately made things a lot quieter. She reached her hand into the pot, looked at her friends to make sure their earmuffs were on and thrust out the little bugger. As expected, it cried out. Aaliyah stared at it, with her head tilted to the side. It was a fat little baby with scrunched up and wrinkled eyes. "I actually think it's kinda cute," she said, forgetting that no one could hear her.
After a few more moments of staring at it, Aaliyah finally placed it into its own pot and quickly threw some soil in. She frowned, seeing it get covered in all that dirt. Forgetting that it was a plant and not a baby, Aaliyah felt bad for suffocating it. She stared at it, with its head still sticking out. "Hey, now baby. It's okay," she said softly, patting it on the head. But it continued to scream. Aaliyah could hear it, though extremely muffled. She felt a little dizzy.
As much as Liyah didn't want to continue, she did not want to pass out either. She quickly added the rest of the dirt, the dragon's blood, and the water. Finally she named her mandrake Barry and placed it on the window sill. That wasn't too bad she thought as she began to take her earmuffs off. Suddenly she remembered again, but it was too late. She had already heard a little bit of the cries and felt even more dizzy. She quickly stumbled back to her seat and sat down with her head in her arms.
[ooc: barry? i know a kid named barry. he's in my precalc class. ;D!]
Sabra put on her earmuffs and watched as other students began to replant their Mandrakes. She figured now was the time to get to work as she could hear very small strains of shrieking. She went over to the supply cabinet and picked upeverything she would need and headed back to her station. She pulled on her gloves and looked at the Mandrake. How could anyone be so in love with this class? Then again, she hadn't had particularly good experiences with magical plants before.
Sabra carefully looked at the instructions because she didn't want to have to re-replant her Mandrake. She firmly gripped the Mandrake by the portion of it's neck that was above the soil and began to pull it out of the pot. "Just like gardening with Mom," she thought to herself. As she put the Mandrake iin its new home for the moment, she had a terrible itch behind her ear, under the earmuff. Now was not the time. Furiously, she tapped on the earmuff hoping that it would soothe the itch until class was over. Covering the Mandrake with soil was the most interesting part so far, she had to admit. For a minute or two she just watched its play in the soil like she and her brothers used to do, and she laughed to herself.
Dragon blood. This was the kind of stuff she was talking about. Strange items were definately her kind of thing. She painstakingly added five drops of dragon blood to the soil, then one more for good measure. As she sprinkled some water on the Mandrake, she noticed that Liyah was back at her seat her head on the desk. She was concerned so she quickly thought up a name for the Mandrake. "Ah, Jordan, " she thought after her brother and scribbled it on the pot and put him by the windows. She made her way over to Aaliyah, and tapped her on the shoulder. "Hey, are you okay?"

[[ooc: Is this the same Barry that's in my grade or a different one?]]
Aaliyah glanced up at Sabra. "Huh?" she cried. She still had the earmuffs on, afraid to even dare to take them off again. She glanced around at all the students. Most were still grimly looking at their mandrakes and had yet to plant them. She glanced at the Professor with a pale, pathetic look on her face. She definately did not feel well. She really shouldn't have even touched her earmuffs until the teacher motioned it was alright.
Second time in one class, Aaliyah had embarassed herself. It was probably because Nort was there that she was being such a clutz. Such a typical teenage girl. Trying to impress a guy she likes but making a complete fool out of herself...

Watching as everyone finally finished replanting their Mandrakes and naming them, Timothy took of his earmuffs. "Alright students you may take your earmuffs off and take a seat. We'll go ahead with our next plant. This one be so long and the pruning process will be short." He smiled as he glanced over each head to see if everyone was doing fine.
"Our next plant is Abyssinian Shrivelfig. It's a useful ingredient in the Shrinking Potion, but only when the plant is pruned." With that, Timothy began to gather pots of the shrug and set it on each students' table as he continued to lecture. "It's a fairly common flowering shrub in the magical gardens. A very hardy plant. They take well to regular pruning, and as a result, we'll be pruning them today and tending to them."
Wiping his hands of the dirt, he returned to the front of the classroom where his own pot of Abyssinian Shrivelfig was sitting. "It is found naturally on six out of seven continents, and they have been cultivated by wizards over the years to be very good garden plants. They aren't overly magical; the only real plus is that the fruit, while a pleasant smell to a witch or wizard, will drive off garden gnomes, who find it repulsive."
Timothy smiled. Those ickle little gnomes. "So these plants may be useful for your future gardens." As Timothy took out his wand from his pocket, he tapped on the board for their next set of instructions to appear. "Alright, so we're going to prune these plants today. I suggest you keep your gloves on. Also you'll be retrieving dirt, dragon blood, pruning clippers, and a bigger pot, and water here at the front table before you begin."
Once his wand was set back in his pocket, he then slipped on his gloves. "And then follow the instructions on the board. I will go along with you so that you don't feel as if you're doing anything wrong. And I will circle around the classroom to see how you progress or if you need any assistance. You may begin!"
Instructions:
1. Put on gloves
2. Grasp at the top and pull very slowly.(Keep your hands at the top!)
3. Place it in the bigger pot, and fill it with dirt.
4. Take a pair of the pruning clippers and just trim them at the top a bit.(You'll see their tiny leaves if you look very closely, just give it a fresh cutting.)
5. Once done, you can give them their daily watering.(Just a small sprinkle.)
6. Pour just a few drops of dragon blood into the dirt.(Abyssinian shrivelfigs love it and it will help them grow properly.)
After giving his bit of speech, Timothy began pruning his own Abyssinian Shrivelfig. At first he grasped onto the top of the plant and pulled very slowly so that the leaves were held upright. As the soiled plant slipped out of it's pot, he placed it into a bigger pot, and then filled it with fresh dirt. Taking a pair of the pruning clippers, he trimmed the leaves at the top a bit. Being a Herboligist, this came simple to Timothy. Once he was done he added a sprinkle of water and a few drops of dragon blood into the dirt. The leaves that were left over, he scooped up and put into a jar.

It took a while for Gyminee to get it right but after a while she was heading in the right direction. She was definately having trouble trimming it.

Once Timothy was done with his own replanting and pruning of the shrub, he did rounds around the students to observe how well they were doing. Honestly, every student in his class were doing perfectly well. He smiled as he returned to the front of the class, watching as each student poured their left over leaves into his jar. Once each student returned to their seats, he did one more round and examined each finished potted plant and how well they were adjusting to their knew surroundings.
"Very good job students." Timothy smiled again as he went to lean against his desk. "You all have followed directions very well and your shrubs look very happy to be in their new pot. To include that their new clippings have went very well. These will come into stock for the potion's professor and the medical staff in the hospital ward."
Timothy glanced over his notes if there was anything else he'd like to add, but nothing else was written. So looking back at his students, well pleased with their actions today, he announced, "Well there is no homework for the day, so you are all good to go. Just leave your shrubs by the window or you may actually take yours with you. Make sure, though, to take good care of it. Dismissed!"
