Tilting the Hourglass [Amanda]

His lids blinked as he walked up the long narrow steps to Dallin Tower. There was no railing on the stairs so Holden kept close to the wall so he wouldn't fall over and get himself killed. It made him wonder who would notice his body on the floor, dead, or who would miss him. Particularly he didn't care if anyone missed him or not.

Holden wanted some fresh air but he didn't want to have to walk outside for a while and then have to come back inside. So what he decided to do was walk to Dallin Tower then walk outside. There he would be inside and outside of the tower. Oh beat that weather.

The weather had started to take a dramatic turn. It was becoming cold and snow was on the ground. Ew. Holden would not walk around in the snow unless he seriously had too. Hopefully no one would throw a snow ball at him. If they did they would be dead. DEAD!

Once inside the tower he walked out to the balcony. Snow was everywhere! Eeps. Holden's gray eyes went into shock as he saw the balcony covered in complete snow. Boy did it snow a lot when it did snow. ;_;

The fifth year shivered as he stepped on the snow. It crunched and sunk under his Vans. Vans weren't the best thing to wear during this weather but it was all he had. Hopefully he wouldn't get frostbite. Eeps! He really didn't want his feet to be cut off or something like that. Ouchy much.

The occasion for the this was quite simple. Holden was meeting Amanda here so he could throw a snowball at her. >=] That was going to be good to watch her face. And the reason he wanted to meet her here was because he could run back inside and hide if Amanda decided to get revenge on him by throwing a snow ball at him. =]

The letter Holden sent Amanda was a ransom note.

Dear Amanda,

I, Holden James Caulfield, Seeker of the Hufflepuff house and fifth year has took the Quaffle away from your darling little unlatched chest. I confiscated this Quaffle at percisely at five a.m. this morning while you were sleeping.

If you ever want to see the Quaffle again and not have Mr. Weasley nor Headmistress Potter to find out you lost the Quaffle and not get hurt then I suggest you come to Dallin Tower on the balcony to hang out with me.

If you disincline acquiesce my request then I guess I'll have to kill the Quaffle with my lovely wand that I just happened to have with me today.

The point was...Holden didn't have the Quaffle. Yes he did take it but all he did was hide it under Amanda's bed. Hehehe. >=] Amanda was so going to kill him. ;_; But it was well worth it. The look on her face was going to be amazing.

It was a quiet day for Amanda as she headed back to her dorm to do a bit of tidying up. Of course it was hard for Amanda to keep her four-post bed clean with all the practice and studying she's been doing. So much work to do and so little time. Plus, she still had to find the time to speak with Jodi about the change in her attitude and the repetitive lateness.

As she entered the Hufflepuff common room and entered her dorm, she looked around and headed toward her own bed by the window. She hadn't noticed the letter she received since she went right away to changing into something a bit more warmer with the halls now all drafty from the colder weather outside. After she slipped on a creme kashmir sweater that flowed over her waist and jeans, she took a seat at her desk to slip on a new pair of socks.

Something about the room changed besides her now clean floor. A note actually laid ontop of her side table that she had must have missed while tidying up. Her light brow arched as she reached forward for the letter, opening the seal, and reading Holden's handwriting. Questions immediately filled her mind when he mentioned stealing the quaffle from the shed. How was that possible?

Nevermind the questions. She didn't want to be blamed for its disappearance, so she hurried and slipped on a pair of her hot pink converses and left the Hufflepuff common room soon after. Amanda smiled briefly at passerbyers and quickened her pace toward the Dallin tower. It was only like what, a few minutes before four o'clock, so she ran up the stairs and passed the many levels as fast as she could.

However, as she nearly reached the top, Amanda had to slow down with the snow-layered steps deepening with each climbing step she took. Of course she didn't want to slip and break her neck or fall all the way down the stairs. That'd be terrible. Death by snowy steps. Amanda would be heading up the stairway to heaven! Hah, that's a song.

She finally reached the top and slowly crept into the open wide tower. Everywhere snow laid, but it was disturbed by steps that lead forward. Her sapphire orbs looked to the figure and she smiled. Holden, in the snow, with Amanda! She loved the snow, but she wasn't here for that. "Where's the quaffle Caulfield?" She asked as she took a step toward him. "Or the snitch gets it."

The boy had a grin on his face. Amanda had indeed did tidy up her room a bit but not good enough to know there was a Quaffle under her bed. [snicker snicker] Hopefully she wouldn't be so mad at him that she'd kill him with a Beater bat or something. That would be terrible. Holden could see it in the headlines now. CAPTAIN KILLS SEEKER WITH BLUDGER BAT! Lovely headline don't you think? Might sell a lot of papers that way. Then at the end go...'HAHAHA I LIED TO YOU ALL!' >=]

Holden hummed to himself a song as he shivered. The weather wasn't the greatest in the world but he actually liked it. As long as the snow didn't touch him or get into his shoes. The bad thing was that his fingers were cold, just his fingers. Why is that you ask? Why is that only Holden's fingers are cold and pale? It's because he is wearing fingerless gloves my dear children of Hogwarts. Fingerless gloves.

He didn't hear Larsen come up the steps of the Dallin tower. Usually you could since people stomped up the steps like crazy trying to get up the d-mn stairs. But no, Amanda had to walk quietly so she didn't slip and break her freakin' neck. I could see the headline now: GIRL KILLED BY SLIPPERY STAIRS! Would sell don't you think?

Holden smiled as he saw his captain and fellow Hufflepuff. His hands went into his hoodie as she made a threat at him. Boy, no she just didn't. Did Holden hear what he thought he heard? Amanda threating him! =O and the Snitch. Holy cabooses! His mouth dropped open and gave her a look.

"How dare you threaten the life of the Snitch! You should feel...you should feel...rotten?" Uhh..that didn't go so well as Holden would have liked. In responce to his...unworking come back he picked up some white snow and compacted it together then tossed it at Larsen's sweater.

Holden brushed of his hands which were cold and his palms which had snow that had caught onto the fabric of his fingerless gloves. He put his hands back into his pocket and waited for the battle to begin.

Was that the best that Holden can do? "I do not feel rotten. Afterall, you stole the quaffle." She scoffed whislt looking the other way. Rotten was far from how she felt. Actually, Amanda felt rather chilled out. Seems that her sweater wasn't keeping the heat inside. Bad idea to meet in the tower, all thanks to Holden. They would turn out to be human popsicles by the end of this meeting.

Amanda ran over the thought of informing Holden that their new librarian had disappeared. That would amuse him after all they had done in the library. Then again, they didn't get the chance to terrorize the man, Edward something. Perhaps word from the former librarian had given the current and newly resigned librarian a warning about the two Hufflepuffs.

However, in the middle of her thoughts, she didn't recognize that Holden had knelt down to create a ball of snow. Pelted in the chest, she mouth dropped. "Oh no you didn't." She glared at him as she too knelt down and began to compact a ball of snow. Did he know who he was messing with? Afterall, she's a chaser and had skill with throwing a quaffle around.

In return, she threw her snowball at Holden's chest. She'd aim for his face, but that would be too mean. And not sure of the outcome, Amanda took a step back while dusting her hands of melted snowflakes. "How do you like that?" She stuck her tongue out at her fellow Hufflepuff. If this is going to end up being a snowball fight, then she was ready for the battle.

"Well you should feel rotten. The Snitch is just a small thing. IT CAN'T HELP IT!," he ended in a whiny tone at her. Holden made a sniffle. "I beat you couldn't even catch the d-mn Snitch!" Ha, beat that one Larsen. =] ily. =]

The Hufflepuff had noticed there was a new librarian. Why did the other one quit on them? Why did this one quit? Did he know about the Larfield [Larsen + Caulfield = Larfield] kids?=] Obviously the old librarian dished out all the juice while Holden and dear Amanda weren't looking. Amanda was right about the old librarian, even though Holden already knew how stupid the guy was. But now dear Edward had left them and didn't even have the remebrance of the two Hufflepuffs. How sad. ;_;

Holden grinned as she said, 'Oh no you just didn't'. Oh yes he did. Oh yes he did. He dared. The Hufflepuff laughed as she threw the snowball at him and it hit him. Holden knelt down and made a snowball and threw it at her hitting her in the leg. He didn't want to hit her face. One, that was mean. Two, Amanda was capible of throwing him off the team. Three, Amanda could kick his arse if she wanted to.

Pfft please. If Caulfield wanted he could catch the snowball and toss it right back at her. "Now remember what I wrote. You have to hang out with me for a bit since I'm offly bored then I'll tell you were the baby Quaffle is. I didn't tie it up. It's not gonna get hurt, much, if you don't hang out with me. Like I wrote before: just hang out for a few." Holden probably didn't need to "steal" the Quaffle to have Amanda hang out with him but she was overly studying so he decided to side track her a bit. It worked too.

"I should have made you meet me on the grounds but I figured it would be too far from the common room." And too far from the Quaffle so you could be like 'Oh no he just didn't hide the Quaffle there'. "And I didn't want to carry you the way back or something. Not that you're fat or anything. You're not fat by the way so don't let anyone tell you that you are."

Holden began making another snowball and compacting it. He wasn't going to throw it at Amanda. =] The Hufflepuff was going to drop it over board. Meaning, he was going to drop it over the balcony and onto some kid or teacher's head. Holden looked over the edge and realized how far down the ground was. He shrugged and dropped the snowball over the edge.

"Do you really wanna know where the Quaffle is?" Pfft, like he'd tell her now, he was having too much fun.

"So! It's made of met-al! Like I could do any damage to it," her eyes rolled at him defensively. Honestly, the quaffle was more vulnerable than the snitch. Pffty! "No dur Holden, but I can accio it to me if I wanted." A tongue protruded through her pink lips. If there wasn't one way she could get the snitch, there was always another, wand work and charms.

She watched as Holden balled up another snowball, and she quirked a dark blonde brow. So it does mean war. Well Amanda was ready for some fun in the snow. Brushing off the snow particles off her pant leg, she too balled up another ball of snow and threw it at his arm. and another just to hold for the retaliation. But her choice was obvious.

The quaffle could wait and spending time with Holden wasn't going to be bad, actually, it was going to be fun. "Well I don't intend to run off and leave you here all by yourself, in the snow." Her lips curled up in a smile. "So we can hang as long as you like. But if I turn into a human popsicle, you're going to have to unthaw me. I really wouldn't like others to know that I, Amanda Larsen, suffered terribly from frostbite."

Actually, the grounds would have been a better and safer place to throw snowballs. What was Holden thinking of causing a snowball fight up in the tower!? "We're not that lazy Holden." She rolled her eyes. "The grounds would have been nice." She sniffed since the cold weather was beginning to give her the sniffles. Hopefully she wouldn't catch a cold. She'd blame Holden for it.

"Oi! Well then why'd you bring it up? Fat. Pfft." She twisted her lips to the side as she threw her already made snowball at him again. This time hitting his shoulder. "But thank you." Huffing, she knelt down again and made another snowball, bigger than her last two. "Though, if I were to carry you back, I'd simply use that mobliocorpus spell," she snickered. "That's way easier than carrying someone."

Obviously Amanda liked Charms, so it was her best attribute whenever she needed to use a spell for something. If not that, then Herbology. But anyway, she looked to Holden and nodded her head. "Of course I'd like to know where the quaffle is, but I feel as if you're not going to tell me where it is so easily. So fine, I can wait. I have all day."

Holden chuckled as Amanda threw snowballs at him. The grounds would have been much much better. "But after this we could get some hot chocolate from the kitchens. It's a shorter walk from here to there but from the grounds to the kitchens is a long walk."

He saluted. "I will unthaw thee if it comes to it. I'll hug you and put you next to the fire and boom! you'll be unthawed like hamburger meat on the countertop," he smiled with a promise. Holden picked up some snow and pressed it together to make a snowball. He threw it and it hit Amanda's sweater. The fifth year was nice enough not to aim at her face. One, that would be rude. Two, she would kill him. Three, she could take him off the team. Four, she was his friendilion.

"We can go to the grounds if you want. I thought this would be better 'cause we could you know just take a couple steps and we would be inside." He laughed. "Well if you have all day then I guess I don't have to tell you till tonight then or something. Thanks. Or maybe I could just tell you." But where is the fun in that?

Holden grabbed somemore snowballs at Amanda then wrestled her gently [since she wa a girl] to the ground. He pinned her down to the ground. "Do you really want to know where the Quaffle is?" The fifth year looked at her censerly. Pfft like was going to tell her. Haha funny.

He kept her pinned. "Give?" Holden gave her a smile and let her go. He kept sitting on the ground even though his butt was freezing like crazy. Holden put his hands into his hoodie pockets to keep them warm.

"So how are you?"

Hm, Holden did have a point there. Hot chocolate after a snowball fiasco sounded very good at this time. And it was definitely a shorter walk from the tower to the kitchens than from the grounds. Smart Holden, very smart. Maybe he had this all planned out? Nah, just the whole part about stealing her precious quaffle and luring her out of the depths of her dorm where she stuffed her nose in those rubbish books.

Nevertheless, she smiled once he saluted, glad to hear that he'd unthaw her either way. "Oh huggles!" She beamed brightly toward Holden, then brushing off the traces of snow from her sweater. "But I'm not sure about comparing me to a hamburger Holden. Gross." She shivered a little with disgust. Afterall, Amanda shouldn't be thought as meat. That was like... cannibalism!

Amanda kneeled down again to grab a hand full of snow, then molding it into a perfect sphere to throw at Holden. She contemplated whether it was best to move down to the grounds. But she really liked the hot cocoa idea and the distance being shorter. Especially for his little frozen toes. "No no, we can stay here. Plus I bet that if we were down on the grounds we'll be bombarded by many other eavesdroppers."

Nodding her head, she throws her snowball at Holden's hoodie, giggling slightly as she did so. "Fine. I guess that's fair. I'll just have to hold on to your Snitch," she grins. But it wasn't long before she got the full of it from Holden. Besides being pelted by snowballs, Holden added that special surprise that left Amanda pinned beneath him. Of course she was used to being mauled to the ground. -.-

"Pfft. I have a feeling you still won't tell me." Trying to struggle from his grip, she huffs, and looks straight up at him. "Hm, I give for now." Defeated, but the day wasn't over with. Eventually Amanda would get her revenge on Holden. Finally as he let her go, she sat up and brushed snow out of her hair with her finger tips. "I'm a bit frosty actually. And yourself?"

"But if you look at it people love hamburgers unless they're vegetarian but then they eat Boca burgers. But anyway...since people love hamburgers since they're nice and tasty wouldn't you want to be called a hamburger? I mean...it's like saying you're nice and tasty -" Holden found the downfall of calling Amanda a hamburger. Hamburgers were also nice and fat and greasy. =] Personally Holden liked his rare. Completely pink on the inside. Yummy.

Ahem! Cannibalism is most frowned upon in most societies thank you very very much miss.

He looked down at Amanda and chuckled. "That's why I'm glad you can take dispappoint meant. I'll tell you once we get inside. 'kay? Promise." Holden looked to Amanda's hands. Frost bitten like his fingers. He put her hands between his since he had fingerless gloves on. "This would be easier," he said as he took off his gloves and put them on Amanda's to keep her hands a little bit warmer. "Time to go inside then."

At that the Hufflepuff got off the snow and brushed off the snow from his hoodie and pants. He grabbed Amanda's hands again and hoisted her up. Holden hugged her and shook his head making snow from his hair fling right at her. He laughed and began walking inside. The fifth year would have hugged her on the way inside but he felt that would be too touchy-touchy.

Inside Caulfield looked to Amanda. "The Quaffle is under your bed, Amanda." He began laughing and he shook his head.

Nice and tastey. Amanda could have gagged if it didn't hurt Holden's feelings, but she refrained to and just slowly nodded her head. "How about I'll be a cupcake instead. Pastries sound so much better than being compared to meat. No offense Holden, but maybe you can take the part of being a hamburger," she giggled. "Or a muffin top. They sell those separately and are very yummy since they are the best part of the muffin."

Er, not saying that she looked at Holden like food and thought that he was amazingly so tastey. xD That sounded a wee bit wrong. "Mmm, maybe we shouldn't talk about food. Its only going to get us to.. er.. I really don't know." Her shoulders shrug as she let the subject slip between them. Well that was weird and she didn't even know why she pursued the subject of metaphorical phrases. Gosh, 'I want a hot juicy burger.' (Wendy's xP)

"I take it very well actually." That saying their current term had been a disappointment, only during quidditch trials. Seriously, was it three try outs until finally they had a practice? Disappointment came easily knocking on Amanda's door. But eventually the tides would change, right? "Alright," rubbing her hands together, but stopped as Holden gave her his gloves. "Oh thanks!" She beamed over at him. Was it time to go in already? Or was it really that cold?

Amanda would have gotten up fine on her own, but the nice gesture from Holden was very acceptable. However, the hug was a warm comfort for the moment until he shook his hair on her. "Ack!" She wiped her face with the sleeve of her sweater. "Pfft. Evil." She muttered as she nudged him on the arm with her elbow. Following a few steps from behind, she left the scene she had the most fun at in a long while.

'The quaffle is under your bed, Amanda.' Stopping in her steps with her mouth gaped open, she huffed and stomped her foot. It was under her bed all along! And he was laughing at her! What a fool! "Tut, tut! That was totally harsh man." But it was well worth spending the time with Holden in the snow. Because snow rocks! Even if Holden doesn't like it.

Hurrying up from behind, she jumped on Holden's back, clinging to him with her arms wrapped over his shoulder. "See, that's what you get! Now, don't fall, or the both of us will go tumbling down like Jack and Jill," she laughed, but didn't stay on long since she was slipping anyway. Hopping back off, she again nudged Holden, but this time in the side. "So, hot cocoa it is? Or are you too frozen?"

The expression on Amanda's face was priceless. It was just how he imagined it while walking out of her dorm room. He grinned at her and shook his head. Amanda even added an extra stomp and a huff. Cute much? Holden turned around and began walking.

"I've just seen a face, I can't forget the time or place that we'd just met, she's just the girl for me. And I want all the world to see we've met
Mmhm mmhm mmhm mmhm,

"Had it been another day I might have looked the other way. But I had never been aware. And as it is I dream of her tonight. Deh deh deh deh," he sang as he began walking. Across the Universe was an amazing movie. =]

He felt something on his back. O.o Where did Amanda come from? Behind him apparently. Holden held onto her legs as he walked a bit. He let out a chuckle as she stated that she didn't want to fall. "I won't let you fall. I'd drop you so you would have time to keep yourself level."

"Falling, yes I am falling. And she keeps calling me back again. I have never known. The likes of this, I've been alone. And I have missed things and kept out of sight. But other girls were never quite like this. Na na na na na na."

Amanda jumped off his back and he put his hands into his pockets. "I'm rather cold almost frozen. From living from Canada to here you'd think I'd like the cold or adapt to it. But I haven't." He put his hand to Amanda's cheek. "Cold?" Holden stuff his hands back into his pockets trying to warm them back up.

It's a bit of both. I'm quite frozen and I need hot chocolate with no marshmellows," he smiled.

Why is it that in the back of Amanda's mind she knew that eventually Holden would break out into a song verse? Perhaps over the past couple of terms she's been used to him randomly singing, and if he wasn't singing, he was sneaky enough to pounce on you! But that's alright because he has a very good voice and she didn't mind listening to him.

Too bad the school didn't have karaoke night, but the Mihaels would give Holden a run for his voice. They are artistic, and she bets they have some musically inclined students in there as well as other artists. But if she could sing, which she is sure she can't as good as Holden, she'd do the karaoke. Perhaps Hufflepuff should host their own in the common room!

But is this how their friendship was going to be? Drop her to keep herself levelled? Pfft, she wasn't that unstable. xP Fine, just fine. It's not like she had the perfect time to pounce since snow was all around anyway. Eventually it'll all turn to ice and then they would be in trouble. At least he attempted to hold her on his back.

"All the way from Canada. Across the sea! Yeah, I would think you would have adapted. However, how can one adapt so easily to the cold anyway? It seems that autumn has started too early in the year here and we're looking into a dreadful winter." Her only guess because the weather changed so suddenly that she couldn't even remember there being snow in October.

She shivered when his hand touched her cheek. Rubbing the spot, she nodded her head. "Very cold." Her fingers were beginning to feel numb, even when she wore Holden's gloves. "Well then let's not stay out here any longer or you'll become fully frozen. Let's get some hot chocolate!" With crushed bits of peppermint, for her of course. Smiling faintly, she nudged Holden ahead and descended the stairwell.
