Sadie set out to explore the castle one afternoon when class had let out. The Gryffindor figured now that she was a second year it might benefit her to know the school more thoroughly. She could no longer claim to be lost when late for class, after all.
Most of the corridors were at least vaguely familiar, however one door in particular was entirely new to her. The pure-blood wandered toward the Muggle Electronics room, curiosity drawing her ever closer. She turned the doorknob and stepped inside to find one of the strangest looking rooms that she had ever seen. The decoration was completely bizarre, and there were lots of students playing with odd gadgets. Sadie was out of her element. The Gryffindor knew so little about muggle devices that she considered simply turning and walking back out the door...
Catching her lower lip between her teeth, the girl paused, looking unsure of herself. She buried her hands in her pockets, trying to appear a bit less uneasy, though it didn't seem to be working in the least. The girl was still in her school robes when most in the room were in their evening clothes, lounging about and entertaining themselves. Sadie hadn't bothered to change before she set out on her little adventure. Taking a few timid steps backward, she seemed overwhelmed.

Brayden walked into the Muggle Electronics Room, thinking that he would like to listen to his iPod. Although he was pure-blood, he had always been fascinated with the things muggle kids use to enjoy themselves (PSP's, iPods, etc.) He walked over to the locker that held his stuff and opened it and took out his 30GB iPod Video.
Brayden was walking over toward a couch when he noticed a confused looking Sadie Radcliffe looking around the room, so he decided to see what was up. "Hey, are you a bit confused, it seems like you are." he said, laughing a bit. "I guess you have never seen what a muggle house looks like. Well, neither have I, but I do know how to use some of the electronics that the kids use. Like this." he said, holding up his iPod.
Sadie took in a slow breath and opened her mouth to reply but nothing came out. Quickly she closed her lips again, an eyebrow quirking at the strange machine that Brayden held in his hand. Reaching out with a cautious finger, the Gryffindor started to touch the device, then quickly thought better of it...just in case. She clasped her hands together, then finally found her voice.
"Er... an eye-pod? Does it have eyes? How does it work?"
Glancing around, Sadie considered taking a seat. It might make her feel a little less odd if she weren't standing in the middle of the doorway with her mouth agape... Then again, she was a little wary of this room... Who knew the differences between muggle couches and regular ones. For the moment she remained where she was, unsure of herself.

"Hey Sadie, what's up?" Avery said as soon as he entered the room. "Oooo, I have one of those!" He had dashed from the Hufflepuff Common Room and had walked his way to the room where he was standing in now. He had never been in this room before. Then again as a Muggleborn, Avery had always grown up with Muggle electronics. He had never found a reason to come to this room. But he thought he might like to see what it was like seeing all the wizards and witches reacting to what he was used to. It would be a change, that's for sure.
"Except, er.... Mine is a Nano, and it's blue," Avery finished dully. He remembered his iPod. He still had her back in his dormitory. "Oh, I'm Avery by the way!" he said to the boy.

As Brayden was about to tell Sadie about what an iPod is, another boy walked into the room and introduced himself to both Sadie and Brayden, saying he had an iPod Nano. "Oh, hello. I'm Brayden Christiansen! I was just going to explain to Sadie what an iPod is. Anyways, Sadie, it does NOT have eyes. What it is, is a portable music device. You see, you put your favortie songs on it, and then you can listen to them wherever you go, except for in the castle, they only work in this room." he said.
The girl stepped a little closer, examining the eyeless "eyepod". She smiled when Avery entered, having recently made his acquaintance in class.
"Hey! Er... Well..."
Sadie paused, having been about to tell Avery the exact same thing that Brayden said. Rather than continue, she turned back to the strange contraption.
"Ohh, I see...it's for music."
She tilted her head to the side, bringing her ear close to Brayden's outstretched hands as though listening for the music. When she didn't hear anything, Sadie frowned slightly. Perhaps you had to be the owner of an "eyepod" to be able to hear its music. Either way, she couldn't hear anything.

Avery wasn't prepared to see Sadie's reaction to the iPod. He was so used to being new to everything and being the one everyone had to explain things to. But this was quite different; maybe he should have taken Muggle Studies, he probably would have done well at it, being a Muggleborn and all.
"Oh, you listen through headphones!" Avery said when he noticed Sadie leaning up to the iPod. He pointed to the headphones connected to the iPod. "Brayden will show ya how they work!"

Brayden couldn't help but laugh to see Sadie lean her head towards the iPod, as if the sound would come out of it. "Here," he said, taking the earphones and setting them gently into Sadie's ears. He turned the volume down, so as not to startle her, and turned on a song by FOB. "Do you hear it?" he said, knowing she would her him since the volume was not too loud.
Sadie grinned sheepishly, standing up straight as Brayden placed the earphones on her. When the music started, the Gryffindor nodded, indicating that she could indeed hear what was going on. She didn't recognize the song or the artist, being that she had never listened to muggle radio before. The girl listened for a minute or so before reaching up to retrieve the earphones and hand them back to Brayden.
"Cool! Wow, and that works without any sort of charms on it? Because muggles don't know any magic, right?"
It was sort of a foreign concept to her, how anything like this could work without magic. It was, after all, a thin little rectangle that made music. Turning to Avery, she asked,
"So you have one of these, too? Does it play the same music?"
Post by aquat1cf1sh on Aug 22, 2007 23:31:54 GMT -5
Avery was amused as he watched Sadie try the iPod for the first time. "I don't think it plays the exact same music, because you get to choose what you put on it, you see!" he explained. He wished he hadn't left his iPod back in his dormitory. But that was okay, he would get to it later.
"This is a really cool room..." he said. "Brayden, are you Muggleborn as well? I know Sadie here isn't." He laughed, it was just so odd seeing two completely different worlds mix together like this.

"Nope, I'm pure-blood! But once when my family and I were on our way to Diagon Alley, when we were in Muggle London, I noticed this in a shop on the window sill, I read about it and I knew could figure out how to work it sooner or later. So my parents let me get it, we had to go to Gringotts first to transfer our money, though." he said. "Are you muggle-born?" he asked Avery.
Sadie seemed a little embarrassed to be so ignorant about muggle toys. She laced her fingers together, glancing between her two friends as they talked about their heritage. After a moment or so more, the Gryffindor decided that they should take a seat. Perhaps they'd have more toys to impress her with.
"Hey, why don't we grab a seat?"
She moved toward an unoccupied couch, which had a few random muggle devices hooked up next to it. They seemed to be for general use, and while Sadie did not know the purpose of a tv or a dvd player, she still glanced over at the things curiously.

"Yeah, I'm a Muggleborn," Avery responded. At first when he had attended Hogwarts he was worried about telling people this. He was worried about all the rumors going around, about how some students called Muggleborns mudbloods. Avery was never offended by that, because it wasn't his choice, but it still sounded rather crude. "I was really shocked when I got my Hogwarts letter. Really shocked..." He wasn't that shocked though; he knew about the magical world long before his letter. He had been bitten by a vampire and one of his mother's friends knew a potion that could control his vampire-esque urges. However he didn't plan on telling anybody about being a vampire for a long, long time.
"What other things are in here?" he asked the two, looking around as he took a seat on the couch Sadie had walked towards.

"So, that eye-pod seems like something you do on your own... Are there any muggle things around here that we can all hear at once? Or something we can use all at once..."
She plopped down on the couch by Avery, her hands folded in her lap. The Gryffindor smiled at both her friends, glad that they had been in the room when she decided to explore. Otherwise she would still be nervously glancing about, clueless as to what was going on. Sadie melted back against the couch, leaning slightly against the arm of the seat. This seemed to be very similar to normal couches... one could never tell, however. What if this played music, too?
The girl seemed to be listening for something as she sat upon the couch, waiting for Brayden to join them.

Brayden joined the other two on the couch and looked around for something, though he didn't know what he was looking for, because the only thing he really knew about the muggle world was well, the iPod. "Well Avery, do you see anything?" he asked him, still looking around for something he didn't know of. "I think I've heard of something that plays music out of...speekers? They play music out of them, and you don't put the speekers in your ears...I don't think." he said, trying to sound like he knew.

"One of these?" Avery said, pulling out a radio from behind the couch. 'What it was doing back there, I don't want to know.' He smiled to himself in his head and looked for a way to turn it on. Finally, he turned it on and an extremely loud burst of static erupted from the speakers and Avery dropped the radio in shock. It didn't break, however; he went to the floor and looked around quickly for a way to turn it off. Finally he at least found the volume tuning and turned it completely off.
"Gah, I'm sorry guys," he apologized, sitting back down on the couch with the radio in his lap. "I didn't know this thing would be so crazy. They usually aren't like that. But then again I never listened to the radio much in the Muggle world, so." He looked around for the station tuning. "This thing gets music from a signal that's shot from a music station building. The signal is caught by the antenna-" he pointed to the antenna sticking up out of the radio. "-And then the music plays. I think this radio was last tuned in to a station that doesn't exist. ...But say, I wonder if radio station signals can come through here? Probably not, that's probably why it was all staticy like that, cause it couldn't catch a signal."
Sadie jumped when Avery turned on the radio, startled by the loud noise that was emitted. She was confused further by the fact that Avery dropped the device making the racket. Was it not supposed to do that? Relieved when it was finally turned off, the Gryffindor shivered a little.
"That...was pretty terrible. You say it plays music? It must be broken, then. Are there other sorts of things that aren't quite so... loud?"
The girl rubbed her ears slightly, hoping that no one would triffle with the "ray-d-oh" again. It was far from pleasant. The "eye-pod" seemed alright, though. Probably most muggle items worked okay. Did they all deal with songs? The muggles must really enjoy their music... What Brayden played for her sounded pretty good. They weren't the Weird Sisters, that was certain, but then... there wasn't anything else like the Weird Sisters.
Sadie yawned abruptly, covering her mouth with the back of a hand. She seemed a little tired from the long day of classes... but still eager to learn about these strange muggle objects.

As Avery turned on the 'ray-dee-o' it made a loud crackling noise, which made Brayden cover his ears with his hands. Once Avery turned it off he took his hands away from his ears. "That wasn't supposed to do that, was it?" he asked. Muggles wouldn't want to listen to that would they, it sounded horrible. Brayden thought it was supposed to play music like an iPod, but that sounded nothing like what he called music.
As he saw Sadie yawn, it made Brayden yawn too, he was getting a little tired, but probably, like Sadie, he wanted to learn more about these things muggles used.

His face a little red, Avery looked around the room as the two Gryffindors on the couch sat near him, yawning. It made Avery want to yawn too. But he was wide awake and was ready to see their responses to anything else that might be here in the Muggle Electronics Room. "Say," he said to them, turning around. "Have you guys heard of anything else that you might find, erm... interesting? Like, from our world? I mean the Muggle world? Yeah, the Muggle world- have you heard about anything else from it?" Avery tripped over his words. 'Go figure,' he thought in his head. 'You were never a smooth talker, Ave.'
Sadie quirked a brow, glancing over at the odd contraption to her left. It was sitting on a cart, and several long black ropes seemed to connect to the wall from the back. The object had a flat, smooth glassy surface, and the entire object was black in color. There were a few buttons at the bottom, under the word Sony.
Other things sat on the shelves below this object, though she was more intrigued by the large thing on top. Did this make music? It didn't seem to do anything at the moment... Reaching out, she tapped the front of it carefully. Nothing happened. Her next impulse was to reach for her wand, though common sense stopped her in the act. Obviously the muggles didn't have wands to activate this thing with... so then, what was it? Did it have a secret word that would turn it on?
"What's this thing, Avery?"
