Nessa was in her tired mode again. This happened a lot. She decided to go to the Quality Quarters and try to find a friend or a new person to meet. She pulled on a sweatshirt. She left her room and went for the QQ.
Nessa smiled as she reached the welcoming warm room with a few people in it. Nessa sat upon an armchair close to the fire. She was cold. So she curled up in the big arm chair and just warmed up a little first. She smiled as she then remembered her book and took it out. Nessa turned to the chapter she was on and read the random, dull, words that made up a wonderful story.
[Wow, that took forever. Sorry I didn't post as soon as I thought I would. =/]
Isaac was thoroughly enjoying his five minutes of peace. Things were turning out to be really hectic. He hadn't been prepared for everything that was thrown his way during his first week at Hogwarts. A lot of the professors had already started class when he walked in, or he completely missed the first lesson all together. There was homework and then everything else that came along with it. He wasn't used to all of these people, either. Once upon a time it was just him and his family. Maybe he was claustrophobic.
Probably not.
Anyway, these five minutes of peace were currently being spent to their fullest in the Quality Quarters. He had gotten up rather early this morning and managed to nab one of the arm chairs closest to the crackling fire. He was actually still in his pajamas: boring black sweatpants, white socks, and a white t-shirt with some muggle logo splashed across the chest. Because of the fire's warmth, his favorite hoodie had been discarded and was laying at his feet on the floor.
Isaac was merely sitting there, watching the fire, when someone wandered in and plopped down in the arm chair next to his. The girl appeared not to have noticed him, so he was content to sit there in silence for a few minutes. After a while, though, he grew bored and started to gather some interest in the girl. She had a book out now and was reading. What kind of books did she like? He shifted a little in his seat, discretely trying to see the cover. It didn't really work.
Nessa had not noticed anyone near her. She then heard a voice.
"Hey. What're you reading?"
It was a boys voice and he was actually in the armchair next to her. Wow! How did Nessa even pass him up. "Well, hello, i didn't even see you there. I'm sorry. Oh, im reading a muggle book, its called the Giver." Nessa smiled closing her book and turning towards the boy. She smiled. "Oh, and I'm Nessa." Nessa said introducing herself.
Isaac's socked feet lowered from the cushion of the armchair and came to rest on the plushie carpet. He smiled a little at the girl. Wohoo. She was nice. And she didn't seem bothered that he chose to pester her while she was trying to read. She even gave him the name of the book, like he'd asked. Wicked. Maybe he'd make a new friend today. Seeing as he only could really consider Logan a friend, that would be a first.
"Ahh," he nodded his head up and down. "I remember reading that book a long time ago. Do you like it so far?" It wasn't surprising that Isaac had read it. He fancied himself a bookworm sometimes. Of course, it depended on the book. If it was a good book, he'd never put it down. If the book sucked, he wouldn't get past the first page. First impressions were big influences on him.
When she introduced herself, he smiled a little again. It wasn't one of those awkward smiles that he so frequently offered Chelsea, but a smile that suggested his tranquility at the moment. "It's nice to meet you, Nessa. I'm Isaac. How long have you been at Hogwarts?
Nessa smiled. So he had read it. Nessa remembered her dad reading it to her when she was little, though she had not really understood it. And also reading it a few times when she was a bit younger. "Yes, i've already read it quite a few times before, but i like it. And yes im kind of a nerd. I love to read." Nessa replied with a shrug. She hoped he didn't mind if she was a little bit of a nerd.
"Why thankyou. Nice to meet you Isaac. I'm in my second year and am in hufflepuff. So this is my second year. How long have you been here?" Nessa asked returning the question.
Woohh, another nerd to play with. Isaac was thoroughly thrilled that he wasn't the only dork around here. "Ha, don't worry about being a nerd. I know all about that label. Being in Ravenclaw doesn't really help at all." He smiled and winked, laughing softly as well. He wasn't sure there was any book in the local library back in Montana or Florida that he hadn't read yet. He had yet to venture into the Hogwarts library. Maybe that would be his next destination.
"I'm a first year," he said in answer to her question. "I've been here a little under a month so far." So Nessa was in her second year? That was interesting. She would be the second person he'd met that was a second year Hufflepuff. Maybe she knew who Josie was. Bah. That was a silly thing to wonder. It was like expecting him to know each and every first year Ravenclaw. Yeah, like that was going to happen any time soon.
Nessa laughed a little at the part about the nerd. She smiled to him. This is good she could have another friend, and he was a lot like her too! He was also helping her forget about her sadness that she had started with.
So he was a first year. She smiled. Her first year went great and she had loved it. As for her second year, not a great start. Nessa thought for a moment. "Mine was great!" She said, a huge grin spreading across her face. "I met some great friends and had a ton of fun! I hope you will like it here!" Nessa said with a smile.
So far, Isaac was liking this Nessa girl. She was friendly and smiled all of the time. At least someone in this school new how to give off a good first impression. He, himself, smiled at his thoughts while he shifted in his seat. His back now leaned against the left arm of the chair and he drew his right leg up to lean against the opposite chair arm. It was bent so that the knee was wedged beween the chair's arm and the back, with his foot dangling over the carpet. His right arm sprawled over the back of his chair, now completely facing Nessa while she talked.
"I like it here so far," Isaac concluded, surprising himself in the process. He hadn't been so enthusiastic to come here in the first place. Maybe he was too quick to judge. "I've met a lot of people, too, now that I think about it. I don't know if I can consider them friends yet, but I may eventually." His mind drifted to previous conversations: Emma at the lake, Josie on the pier, and even Chelsea in this very room. Friends? Maybe.
"How about this year?" He asked, drawing himself from his thoughts. "This one going as good as last term?"
Nessa changed her position as well. She turned in her seat to look at Isaac. She then crossed her legs, leaving one knee hanging off of the seat. Nessa smiled. "Well, that's good!" She told him smiling, like she was doing a lot. "Well, would you consider me a friend? Maybe?" Nessa shrugged. She wouldn't mind if he didn't.
"Well," Nessa bit her lower lip, things were not going well at all. Nessa looked into Isaac's eyes. She hoped he would not mind her telling him all her problem's, so she dealed them out slowly. "first off, i broke up with my boyfriend recently. Second off, it is all my fault and now he hates me. Third off, i've been late to like all my classes, and i missed some of the first ones. Finally I hope you don't mind me rambling off like this, me putting all my problems on you." Nessa shook her bangs out of her face and bit her lower lip again.
Isaac developed an overly large grin when Nessa suggested being friends. "Sure!" He said with a perky-like attitude. He had never been one to accept friends by invitation, but just one wouldn't hurt anything. Besides, she was nice and smiled a lot. Smiling was contageous sometimes. "But only if I get accepted into your friends list as well. It's gotta be a two-way deal, you know."
He was still smiling to himself about the friend situation when Nessa moved onto other things. Back to life issues. Ah... life issues. What a way to start an interesting conversation. He knew Nessa would probably wonder why she had told him this stuff after their conversation was over. It happened to everyone he talked to. Well, maybe not everyone, but close enough. It was always easier to spill your problems to a complete stranger than your best friend. The stranger was less likely to judge you in the long run. That's just the way it was.
"I don't mind at all," he told her after her apology. "It's always easier to talk to someone you just met than someone that's been a life long friend." Voicing his thoughts, Isaac smiled a little. "Anyway, I'm really sorry about your boyfriend. I'm sure things will work out between you two eventually. Maybe he just needs time to ... think, or something?
" Alas, he managed to sound just like every other male out there: completely hopeless when it came to helping girl's and their problems. But give him a break, it's not like he's Dr. Phil.
"Don't worry about your classes, either. You'll get used to when to show up and stuff. I totally missed my first Transfiguration class, but the professor didn't even notice."[/blockquote]
Nessa laughed as Isaac had a huge grin on his face. "Well ok then! i promise!" She smiled to him. So Nessa had just made a new friend, exactly what she wanted right now. And also he had no guy friends, except for his twin brother, his cousin, and Brayden if he still wanted to be friends. So Isaac would be the one she could hang out with all the time. She loved this idea. They could become best friends. The more she thought about this the more Nessa smiled.
Back to reality. Nessa came back from her little dream. She did not know how to feel right now, she was all emotions really. She didn't single one out right now, she was happy, sad, mad, and all that. Nessa shrugged as she stretched out her arms and legs, pulled them back in and sat with her legs on the seat bent next to her.
Nessa felt better knowing that he did not mind. Because she thought that she would be kind of creeped out if some one did this to her. But that is what she liked about him, he was more of a friendly person who you could talk to easily from the start. "Well thanks Isaac! Im glad you could help me!" Nessa already felt better. "Yeah I guess its not so bad! Thanks!" Nessa knew that they could some day be great friends.
His head bobbed up and down in a happy sort of way. He had successfully made a new friend. Wow, who would've thought simply sitting in a room by yourself could lead to such things? This world was an amazing place, wasn't it. Sure, maybe it was a little weird that they had asked to be friends, but it was a start. Besides, Nessa wasn't annoying. She wasn't overly loud or anything. She just... was. In a weird way, she reminded him of Chelsea. Roar. He really needed to stop comparing people to Chelsea. He talked to that girl once. That's it. End of story. Blah.
When Isaac tuned back in, Nessa was thanking him for helping her. He frowned a little. A couple sentences made her feel better? Just like that? For some reason, he found that hard to believe. Maybe she was faking it. A lot of people did that when they felt uncomfortable or wanted to change the subject. He was compelled to prob for the truth, but he held his tongue. It wasn't his place.
"No problem," he said instead, feeding her a smile. "I don't think I did much, but as long as you do, I guess that works out well.
" He dropped his feet to the floor and slumped down in the armchair, deciding to lose himself in its comfy embrace. "So that book," His eyes were on the book in her lap and he pointed at it. "How many times have you read it?"[/blockquote]
Nessa did think it was weird to ask to be friends, but she wanted to make sure they were. She laughed, she felt like a little girl again, where you could go up to anyone and ask to be their friend.
Nessa saw his frown. She did not completely feel better, but she thought it was nice that he was trying to help her, just that made her smile a bit.
She then felt bad, had she done the wrong thing telling him that she felt better. She smiled. "Well yeah i think the fact that you tried to help me made it a little better." She smiled to convince him that it really did work, because it did. "Oh i think like three times, going on my fourth." Nessa said looking to it.
Isaac nodded slowly, flashing her another smile. She wanted to insist she was feeling better, then so be it. Like he decided before, it wasn't his place to tell her whether or not she was any happier than she had been before. In fact, the thought alone was rediculous. No one could claim to know exactly how another is feeling. You're pathetic, the thought ran through his mind as he situated himself further. Stop thinking so much before you give yourself a headache. Or worse, a migraine. You know how much those suck.
"Wow." His gaze, too, flicked to the book in her lap. There was no way he could read a book over two times. Once he knew what was going to happen and how, it was no longer as interesting to him as it had been the first time. Sure, reading it a second time gave him more time to notice the details, but still. Booorrriinngggg. "Must be a better book than I remember, huh? That's cool. How far into it are you?"
Nessa smiled a weak smile. She still felt like he wanted more, but she was tired of all this emotion and such, she just was worn out.
"Yeah, ehh its not that great! But i just love reading." Nessa said holding the book. "It does get quite boring and such." Nessa shrugged. "I was just very bored, but then i guess it was good i found you here." Nessa said grinning to Isaac.
Isaac laughed at her reaction to his question. If it wasn't that great, then why was she reading again? Her logic didn't make sense to him, but it didn't really have to. If she wanted to re-read a book that she'd already read a thousand times, then so be it. Maybe she was trying to memorize it or something. Heh. He couldn't memorize a book to safe his life. He probably wouldn't even make it past the first line. Oh, how pathetic. Hadn't he been sorted into Ravenclaw for a reason?
"Well, that's good," he nodded to her comment about loving to read. "I like to read, too. Except, not the same book more than twice. It gets too predictable and I end up skipping half the book just so I can get to the most interesting part." He shifted in his seat, stretching out his legs to get rid of the curve in his spine and relax his muscles. His stretch developed into a wary, arms-stretched-above-your-head yawn.
Satisfied and feeling strangely renewed, Isaac curled back up in the arm chair in time to hear Nessa comment about having found him. "Yep," he said merrily, nodding again. "I'd probably be asleep if you weren't here to keep me company."
Nessa laughed. "Yeah well i was thinking of just skipping to the end quickly." She smiled as she looked at her book. It actually was just the first book she grabbed when she came down here. And she also had not read it in a while so that of course made it a little different. But she was too tired to read now.
"Yeah, well maybe that's a good thing then huh?" She laughed a little and saw him stretch. That made her muscles feel tight. She felt kinda weird stretching right after him and hoped he didn't think she was copying him, but its like a yawn, when one person does it, you just do it. Nessa stuck her feet straight out and rubbed her eyes a little.
