Sitting on the Dock (Malachi)

Emma Winters sat on one of the many docks, her feet hanging over the edge. The soft tide slowly lapped up against the shore, tickling her feet. She sighed and glanced out over the setting sun.

Malachi sighed as he walked along the empty grounds. It was hogsmeade weekend and almost everyone was gone. He was in his faded jeans and a black-and-white striped t-shirt, which had long sleeves, a black sleeveless jacket of it. He made his way to the lake, spotting someone he met in a common room. He smiled and walked up to the dock.

"Hey, Emma.", he said softly.

She glanced over her shoulder and smiled.

"Hey Malachi," she said, hugging her knees. "What's up?"

[malachi]

Malachi smiled at her, sitting on the spot beside her, his now bare feet in the water. "Not much, was just walking around.", he told her with a smile. "What're you doing at the lake all alone? Not going to hogsmeade either?", he asked.

"No..." Emma sighed. "I just...didn't want to go," she ended shortly, quickly changing the subject. "How 'bout you? Why are't you going?" she asked.

[malachi]

"I...didn't want to go either. It's too soon.", he said softly, remembering his father loving to talk about Hogsmeade.

"Too soon?" Emma looked over at Malachi, trying to read his face.

[malachi]

"My dad, before he died about 3 weeks ago, always told me about Hogsmeade and how it was really fun. And, well..If I go now, I'll be really reminded of him and im not ready to get over it.", he said, smiling. Last time Emma nad him met, he was sarcastic, but he was letting out a softer side this time.

Emma's eyes widened and she quickly turned her head away, though her shoulders shook slightly. "My dad died last year," she choked out.

[malachi]

"It seems we finally have something in common.", he smiled softly. "Sorry about your dad.", he smiled and splashed his feet in the water as he swung then back and forth.

"It's still really hard for me," she continued. "But it's because of him that I'm here. Ever since he died," she hesitated but pressed on, "...I've been able to see, I know this sounds strange, wings on certain people. Then I got the letter to come here and everything has changed..." she ended sadly, unsure of what to say. She stood up slowly stretching her legs. She bent over and grabbed a pebble, skipping it across the lake.

"Wings?", he asked, raising an eyebrow, but he decided not to question it. "Well, you want to go swimming or something? It could be pretty boring just sitting here."

She smiled in relief, glad that he didn't think she was a weirdo or anything for being able to see wings. She nodded, "Sure," and stripped off her clothes to reveal a two piece Muggle swimsuit.

Emma grinned sheepishly. "I was kind of planning on swimming, can you tell?" She threw her clothes to the side and then dived into the water.
